Conversations with Dayna & Meghan Green & Martin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dayna & Meghan Green & Martin.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Gals & Ghouls was born from a spark of creative rebellion. We (Dayna and Meghan) met in makeup school and quickly connected—not just over our love for hair and makeup, but over our shared sense of humor, frustration with the status quo, and deep passion for doing things differently. What started as vent sessions between friends turned into a serious conversation about building something that felt truly us.

After graduating, we dove into weekend gigs—bridal parties, Halloween makeups, photoshoots—and realized that creating transformations wasn’t just a skill, it was our calling. It didn’t take long before we traded our 9-to-5s for full-time artistry and launched Gals & Ghouls.

From the beginning, we knew we didn’t want to be just a hair and makeup company. Gals & Ghouls is a creative experience. Yes, we specialize in beauty services for weddings and special events, but we also thrive in special effects, commercial and editorial shoots, film work, and more. Whether we’re helping a bride feel like the most confident version of herself or building a creature for a short film, we bring the same level of artistry, attention to detail, and love for transformation.

Today, we’re proud to lead a team of Michigan-based makeup artists and hairstylists who share our mission: to empower people through creativity and transformation. Gals & Ghouls is built on the belief that every person deserves to feel seen, celebrated, and a little bit magical. Our journey so far has been wild, weird, and wonderful—and we’re just getting started.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like most small businesses in the creative industry, our journey hasn’t been without its bumps. While we’ve been lucky to build something we’re truly passionate about, the last year or so has definitely brought challenges—especially with the shifting economy and a noticeable slowdown in commercial and film production not just in Michigan, but across the country. That side of our work took a hit, which forced us to pause, pivot, and get creative.

We’ve been focused on pushing forward—exploring new ways to connect with clients and expand our offerings. Right now, we’re getting ready to launch a line of custom glitter tattoos for parties, events, and rolling out express virtual makeup classes that are not only budget-friendly, but also open to anyone, anywhere—so you don’t have to live in Michigan to learn with us!

We believe in staying inspired, even when the road gets a little rough. At the end of the day, Gals & Ghouls is a creative business at its core—and creativity is what keeps us moving.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
At Gals & Ghouls, we specialize in on-location hair and makeup services for weddings, photoshoots, commercial work, special events, and film. Our team of Michigan-based artists is skilled in everything from classic bridal beauty to editorial makeup, special effects, and character transformation.

But what truly sets us apart is the experience we create.

With backgrounds in psychology and social work, we’ve always been deeply focused on how people feel during their time with us—not just how they look. We’ve built Gals & Ghouls as a space where everyone can feel safe, seen, and celebrated. That emotional awareness influences every part of our approach, from how we consult with clients to how we build our team.

We’ve cultivated a community of artists who believe in our mission: that everyone deserves to feel empowered, glamorous, and authentically themselves. It’s more than a tagline—it’s the core of everything we do.
