Today we’d like to introduce you to Darlene Perkins. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Mobile Laundry’s Detroit founder, Darlene Perkins, established the business Mobile Laundry Detroit to relieve people the stress associated with doing laundry. With understanding first-hand how important it is to delegate certain mundane tasks, to focus on what is most important.
She has served in the community as a servant leader for over a decade. Serving with integrity and ensuring client satisfaction is what she embodies, and coaches to her team.
Darlene’s family established laundry services on Detroit’s East Side back in the early ’90s – Concord Laundromat- to provide affordable and sometimes free services to a community in need.
Together with her team, she remains committed to providing for and serving her community with exemplary services!

And did I mention, we are a black woman owned business!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of the obstacles we overcame right away was educating clients on load size and the proper way to wash clothes. You’ll be surprised how often we have received a 30-gallon bag of clothes (which typically is 5 loads) where clients presumed that it was 3 loads max due to how they were filling their machine to at home. Often time, we heard some clients mentioned they would just pack their machine to it’s capacity, because they just didn’t have time to wash so many loads. Unbeknownst when that is done, most times clothes aren’t getting property clean, causes damage to the machine which in turn could lower the life cycle to the machine.
We have curated content on our social media platform forms, that not only provide tips on properly cleaning clothes but also breaks down why it is not a good idea to stuff washers to the max and how to easily determine how many loads you are sending, if they do not have a scale at home.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Our team is known for supporting a need for people who are on the go and overwhelmed with many tasks. We are known for our quick response and turnaround time. I am currently focusing on scaling and expanding
I am most proud of the support we give to seniors who are not in the position to go to the laundromat or even tackle their loads on their own.
We pride ourselves in providing exceptional services and being consistent with our 24 hours turnaround.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up.
Spending time with my late father, John Perkins Sr., at our family-owned laundromat on the east side of Detroit (Concord Laundromat). I was able to be taught, hands-on how, to run businesses but, most importantly, be instilled the wisdom of how to be a servant leader in my community.
You see, my father was a very kind man and did charitable things often for our community, for the area we lived in, mostly low-income (poverty line) families surrounded us. So, we cut our neighbors grass, he mentored young men that were on a troubled path, and we often gave free laundry service for anyone in need. Being able to witness his type of servitude to a community at such a young age inspired me to be the leader I am today.
