Conversations with Danielle Williams

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Williams.

Danielle Williams

Hi Danielle, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My father owned a beauty supply store, so I grew up working in the family business. What I didn’t know then, was that his entrepreneurial spirit was contagious, and I caught it. So, after college and a quite a few jobs…..I went back to the family business to see if I could put some of my new knowledge to work. Instead of improving the family business…..I created a boutique customer and after a year and half noticed that I had created a clientele strong enough to open my own brick and mortar. In 2005, I moved out of the beauty supply and we have been in our location ever since. I didn’t have a passion for fashion….I do love people and once I discovered that Entrepreneurship was in my blood, it didn’t matter what I did as long as I was empowering and uplifting my community.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Our first bump came in 2008 when the recession happened. Michigan depending so heavily on the automotive industry was especially hit and that lasted for a few years. We were a new business carrying debt, so that was an especially hard time. We discovered over the years, that election years would prove challenging and when the economy struggles, manufacturing suffers. We only stand as strong as those producing goods for us, so those have been some of our struggles along the way.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I own a women’s Clothing Boutique. The majority of our customers, most being women face various external and internal pressures, stimulating from weight struggles, relationship uncertainties and secular stress. We support them through these pressures by taking the work out of shopping and creating the looks they desire while they benefit from retail therapy. Letting it all out. We also celebrate with our customers, we applaud their milestones, be it, promotions, anniversaries and marriages….just to name a few. And yes, we dress them from head to toe for these occasions as well. We are called the girlfriend’s boutique due to cultivating strong relationships with our customers and truly caring about them.

How do you think about luck?
I don’t give credit to luck. I do believe that you reap what you sow. As a Christian, I work hard to treat people how I want to be treated. I’ve always been diligent with bookkeeping, taxes, insurance and other fiduciary responsibilities. Business is important but doesn’t come before God in my life so I credit him for all the blessings I receive, but I also understand living in a world of uncertainty, we have all had times of affliction.
