Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Roberts.
Hi Daniel, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I started podcasting in quarantine just the same as many others. I think the only difference is I fell in love with it. I made it my mission to make something of it and scrapped away any thoughts of a plan B. Once I did that it really put my back against the wall to make this thing work. I was lucky enough to have learned of Woodward Sports early and I MADE sure to get my foot in the door. I let my skillset, personality, work effort, & undying belief in myself do the rest.
My main motivation was to set an example for my son that you can pursue anything in life no matter the circumstances and odds stacked against you. That and I want to give my Grandkid’s Grandkids something to brag about so they remember me.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road AT ALL! I truly believe that if I hadn’t felt like I “lost” everything at one point, that none of this would’ve even happened.
If anyone reading this feels completely lost or that they’ve lost everything. I think it’s important for them to know that hard times ALWAYS pass. No matter how bad any storm is the sun still shines at the end of it. DON’T GIVE UP on yourself. The good moments feel great once you make it out.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a content creator for the biggest disruptor in Detroit sports media. “Woodward Sports Network” the first all-digital sports network in the Detroit market. I like to think of us as the Bad Boys of Detroit Sports Media.
If I were to answer what I’m known for I’d probably have to say making people laugh, or opening their minds (and my own) by playing the devil’s advocate.
I feel like specialize in being the creative disruptor. The Draymond Green, the Dennis Rodman. I do and say the things you’re not “traditionally” supposed to say or do. Whether it makes you laugh or makes you angry it plays a key role in helping us win as a network.
I am most proud of the fact that who I am on air is who I am in person. I never had to fake a role or say anything I don’t mean to earn my spot. That and the fact that I escaped the storm that drove me in this career direction. I NEVER GAVE UP.
I think the one thing that sets me apart from others is I love to make people break character or routine and smile/laugh. That and my undying belief in myself.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
YES! The biggest advice I’d share is be ready to go to war with yourself and others to make your dream come true. Don’t give up if you truly feel driven or have evidence that you are different from the others (in a positive way).
If you’re pursuing something digitally don’t tread far from your niche, and try to fine point what that niche is as much as possible. Once you find it don’t try to change it or it won’t work out. You’re better off starting brand new.
