Conversations with Clara Mouawad

Today we’d like to introduce you to Clara Mouawad.

Hi Clara, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have always been passionate about art, and from a young age, makeup became my favorite medium. I started playing with my mom’s makeup around the age of four when she was at work. In my later years of grade school, I began experimenting with creative looks—like skeleton designs for Halloween. By high school, I wore makeup daily, followed various eyebrow trends, and loved creating fun looks on myself, my siblings, family, and friends—first for free, then for a small fee. In July 2021, I became certified and began growing my makeup artistry business professionally. Although I took a break to focus on school, I’m happy to be back doing what I love—practicing my artistic skills and making people smile.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t necessarily been a bumpy road, but it hasn’t been completely smooth either. Business was going well until I had to temporarily close when I moved away for school. I referred my clients to other artists I trusted, and now I’m slowly picking up where I left off to reconnect with my community.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a makeup artist known for enhancing natural beauty in a way that feels effortless and skin-like. My signature style is glowy, airbrushed, and soft. Makeup enough to tell someone has it on, but not too much to look heavy or overdone. I take sanitation very seriously and admire bridal looks the most. One of my proudest moments was being selected as a finalist in the Patrick Ta x Orbiiit Challenge. I’m also proud of several artistic looks I’ve done that went viral and really showcased my creativity and range.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that growth takes time, and it’s okay to take breaks when needed. Stepping away from my business to focus on school taught me the value of patience, balance, and trusting the process. I’ve also learned that staying true to my style, maintaining professionalism, and building genuine relationships with clients matter just as much as the artistry itself.
