Today we’d like to introduce you to Cierra Mooney.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Whew. It’s been a journey.
I started my career in Washington, DC after graduating from the University of Michigan–Dearborn with a film degree. Like many creative people, I didn’t start exactly where I thought I would. My first role was as a marketing assistant at a nonprofit. From there, things started to build. I moved into a marketing executive role where I handled marketing and events for several restaurants on Capitol Hill. Then came another restaurant group. More events. More campaigns. More strategy.
Somewhere along the way, I pivoted into film and entertainment PR. Then I found myself doing contract work for Google. Life was moving at a pretty good pace.
And then the pandemic hit. Everything stopped. I left D.C. and eventually moved back home to Michigan to start my life over.
By 2022, I slowly stepped back into contract work—but this time, I made a quiet decision to lean into my film background more intentionally. That shift led me to Morocco, where I worked as an assistant producer on a video shoot. That experience reminded me what I loved about storytelling.
From there, clients started coming in through word of mouth. And here’s the funny part: I hadn’t clearly defined what I did yet. People were hiring me for everything—admin work, filming, producing events, building full marketing campaigns. If it needed organization and vision, somehow my name came up.
I was excited… and honestly, terrified. I felt scattered. Like I was doing everything but owning nothing. But what I eventually realized was this: I wasn’t scattered. I was layered.
I had been blending strategy and storytelling the entire time. Marketing and film. Structure and creativity. Campaign building and visual execution.
Once I understood that, everything clicked.
That clarity led me to launch Ce The Moon Productions LLC—a creative strategy and production company built at the intersection of digital marketing and visual storytelling.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Ummm… smooth? I wouldn’t say that.
Looking back, I can see how it *could’ve* been smoother — if I had gotten out of my own way. A lot of my challenges weren’t about opportunity or ability. They came from uncertainty. From being afraid to fail. From overthinking every move.
I spent a lot of time in my own head, and that hesitation sometimes left me feeling stagnant. Not because I wasn’t capable — but because I was doubting myself more than I trusted myself.
Eventually, I had to pause and turn inward. I knew something deeper was going on. I had to confront the fear, the imposter syndrome, the pressure I was putting on myself — and really ask, *What’s holding you back?*
That internal work wasn’t easy. But it was necessary. And it changed everything.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
At Ce The Moon Productions, we don’t just “post content.” That’s the easy part.
We build full campaigns. We produce rollout events. We create visuals that actually connect. Every project starts with one question: What’s the real story here?
We’re known for capturing the essence — the intentionality — behind a product or service. Not just what it does, but why it exists. What it stands for. What it’s meant to make people feel.
When people ask me what I’m most proud of with my company, I honestly can’t name one moment. I’m proud of all of it. Every risk. Every pivot. Every client who trusted me to bring their vision to life. Every time a strategy landed exactly the way it was supposed to.
What truly sets me apart is how deeply I immerse myself in my clients’ goals and missions. I don’t just work for brands — I step inside them. I emotionally connect with my clients and their businesses. I study who they are until I can articulate their message without them having to overexplain it. I learn what they’re saying — and sometimes what they’re trying to say but haven’t found the words for yet.
Then I build the strategy.
And I let it speak to the consumer on their behalf.
Because at the end of the day, marketing isn’t just about selling something.
It’s about making people feel something. And when people feel something, they move.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I’ve truly been blessed with incredible, genuine people who want to see me win.
My mom is probably my biggest cheerleader. That woman would go to bat for me in any situation, at any time — no hesitation. My dad has always grounded me with wisdom, especially when it comes to handling clients and navigating business with integrity. My sister constantly roots for me and, when I start being too hard on myself, she’s the one reminding me of everything I’ve already accomplished.
And then there’s my small, tight circle of friends — the kind of support system that shows up, checks in, celebrates the wins, and holds space during the challenging moments.
I don’t take any of it for granted. Having people who genuinely believe in you makes building something of your own feel a lot less lonely — and a lot more possible.
