Today we’d like to introduce you to Becky Milanio Koupparis.
Hi Becky, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Currently I am the Chief Executive Officer of The Michigan Rocky Horror Preservation Society (“MiRHPS”). Prior to becoming CEO, I was the Chief Operating Officer and served as Director for eight years. I also currently serve as the Chief Governance Officer of BL Rocky Productions in the San Francisco Bay Area. I began my association with The Rocky Horror Picture Show in 1981, 45 years ago, with the cast, Indecent Exposure at the UC Theatre in Berkeley, California. I have been fortunate enough to play ever part in the film and spend a significant part of my time as the costume designer for MiRHPS theme nights.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
In 2009 I was diagnosed with stage three colon cancer and it was my IE cast members who supported me through my journey with chemotherapy and radition.
In 2020, MiRHPS lost our Founder, Faith Duede. Losing Faith was a devastating loss to our cast.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
MiRHPS is an all volunteer, 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation.
I have been a corporate securities paralegal for 38 years, the last seven years adding employment immigration to my legal discpline. Currently I serve as Director, Legal Operations.
What matters most to you? Why?
The Rocky Horror shadowcasts that I have been a member of have given me some lifelong friendships. In each instance, these casts were created to shadowcast a film and they have become our chosen families.
