Conversations with Ashley Wheeler

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Wheeler.

Ashley Wheeler

Hi Ashley, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I was fortunate enough to do an apprenticeship at a charming salon in Elk Rapids. With the encouragement and support from my apprentice, I was able to build my skills and confidence. Shortly after I was licensed, the world shut down due to Covid. Here I was, full of passion and ready to show off my talents, but I couldn’t use them. I really felt like my career would never flourish.

Not being able to work due to the restrictions of the state, I decided to seek employment at a medical spa, where they were able to perform services. I learned some new services, found out who I was as an esthetician, and decided to open my own space. My studio is actually right next door to where I first started, and I love the full-circle moment.

Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
Running a small business is never always a smooth road.

There are always obstacles and challenges but I’ve found its how you handle those situations that propel you forward. Sometimes everything seems great and you’re on top of the world and then there is a shift. You learn, grow, make adjustments and you get through it You definitely get thrown out of your comfort zone.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in results driven holistic skincare, approaching the body as a whole to assist my clients with their skincare concerns. I really enjoy working with acne and rosacea clients and watching their confidence blossom when they see their skin clearing up and regaining health.

I am known for my facials and facial massage, and perhaps my “this is how it really is” attitude. I don’t hold back with my clients, and I think that builds trust. What sets me apart is my way of approaching the skin. I don’t believe in a 12 step skincare routine and I don’t think you need to protect yourself from the sun 24-7. I think very differently than other estheticians and it’s a wonderful trait.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
I love collaborations! I love meeting other small business owners, particularly women. I enjoy hearing their stories and having honest conversations about setbacks, what works, what doesn’t, how we can support one another to get more reach, etc.

The best way to work with me, collaborate or support is to contact me via email or through my Instagram, @Nadora.esthetics. Community Support is huge, but sometimes just dropping a line of encouragement to another business really helps them get through a tough day.
