Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Shannon.
Hi Ashley, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My fitness journey & competitive spirit started at a young age. Middle school age to be exact. I started running track at age 11. I stayed athletic throughout high school and college & my majors were Sports Medicine & Athletic Training my Freshman through Junior Years of college. I graduated with my Bachelor’s Degree from Eastern Michigan in 2009 and my Master’s Degree from University of Phoenix. Both degrees in Health Care Administration. After starting my career with the Federal Government, my stress levels became higher. I gained weight trying to outwork a bad diet. I remember going to the gym at 4 or 5 am every morning just so I can make it through the day. I hired a personal trainer for a push. My trainer Glenn Lott took me from 189lbs to 128lbs in a year. He pulled out of me what I already had in myself. A lady beast. I moved on & started training on my own. Getting better & keeping the weight off!
I started to work out with family members & friends helping them achieve fitness goals. It wasn’t until I had my daughter when I started to research on better food choices & starting the journey of transforming my post-partum body. I had worked so hard with weights, cardio & strength training & still had issues with dieting. I would balance so much throughout my day I made my daily stresses as an excuse to neglect my body & not fuel it properly.
I overcame bad eating habits & a stressful career. I’ve been employed with the Federal Government for over 12 years now & I am a supervisor. I outlive my passion to help others at work & after work training my client/friends daily!
I juggle so much in a 24-hour period as a mom., personal trainer & supervisor I shock myself daily. Through it ALL, my passion will always be fitness. I became certified in January 2021 & have been soaring ever since. I train clients at The Goat Locker gym with two black king owners. Today I have 12 clients & counting and could not be more blessed. I’ve developed a webpage, made content for fitness programs & had numerous photoshoots.
My only goal is to keep training hard & love a long prosperous life.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My biggest struggle is putting my passion second. I carry so match responsibilities that I need my career & my passion to keep my sanity & to display great work ethic habits to my one & only daughter. No easy road, this has been hard as hell, but I do not regret a thing. I was made for this!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an Operational Supervisor for Social Security Administration. I have been employed almost 13 years & promoted 3 times. I’ve been recognized my our commissioner numerous of times for my hard work, dedication & customer service. Working hard is just in me. I watched my mother & father have a lot but work with hard for every Tanjible or non-Tanjible good. I am proud to be a mother & pass the torch to my daughter like my mother did me.
What sets me apart from others is my BALANCE. I juggle a household, career, personal training passion, motherhood, and close relationships with friends & family; I love to cook & make it happen almost daily despite how tired I am. I am the true definition of HARD WORK. I can wear gym shoes & sling weights in one minute & the next I’m wearing a suit & heels. Whatever is thrown at me, I take it in stride & anyone that knows me can vouch I am the TRUE DEFINITION OF RESILIENCE!
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you, and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
I’ve learned life is short & having good health should be our first & last prayer for the day. Do not take your body for granted! Fuel it well & treat it even better.
