Conversations with ArtB.

Today we’d like to introduce you to ArtB.

Hi ArtB., we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I knew I was meant to be a writer and over a decade ago I put it to the test. I had a weird story in my head that I wanted to create a book around. Psychological Thriller movies always intrigued me and challenged my mind the most, so I decided to stay in that genre when I began writing.

Although I have a Journalism degree, the process of becoming an author was still a “learn as you go” lesson. I did a ton of research and applied a lot of what I learned in school—from editing to marketing and advertising—to my writing journey. Even web design and arranging my book signing events in different states was a learning curve.

It’s a lot of work if you’re serious about this career. I sold books out the trunk of my car for years (and still do) and it was at the most random places because you have to do what it takes to get your name out there… and I still continue to hustle!

I had to learn to wear all the hats for my writing career. Although today I have help periodically, no one does more for my business than me.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road definitely had many sharp curves, roadblocks, and dead ends as I traveled on this journey! At the time I began, I was a military wife and a new mom of twins. Sleep deprivation, stress, and exhaustion caused most of my writer’s block. To be honest, I’m not sure how my brain was able to finally escape motherly worries and military travels to write the first book… there were times when I wanted to quit and for a while, I did because I just couldn’t concentrate long enough to be creative.

Thankfully, I had a great support system. Family and friends were very encouraging. However, I’m still not where I want to be at yet, but I’m soon on my way!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Besides being an author, I also own an online store called Boh.Hip.Gyp. It has jewelry, boho style clothing and I designed the ‘BHG’ exclusive clothes. The exclusive clothes is my way of combining art and my wordsmith skills.

Above all though, writing is my first love. I get to create stories with twists and turns and most importantly, it’s about mental health so that’s my way of bringing awareness. I put real information and messages in my books and dress it up as entertainment.

What does success mean to you?
Success to me is more than just obtaining wealth; it’s also living in your purpose, having balance in life, breaking generational curses, and being the best version of myself.
