Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Kachman.
Anthony, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My Journey started back in 2016. I was working in the manufacturing industry for 10 years as a CNC machinist. I just happened to fall into that field of work but it was not something that made me happy or was passionate about. I was working night shift and knew I wanted more out of life and a career. I have always been an outgoing, self-motivated type of person and I thought real estate was a great opportunity to shine. I studied many hours and while working night shift, I passed my real estate exam and started my realor career part-time to learn the ropes. I knew that this was something I had a nack for and not long after passing my exam, I quit the manufacturing world and pursued real estate full time. After a few transactions, I was presented with the opportunity to work for Quick Loans aka Rocket Mortgage. After a lot of consideration and soul searching, I jumped on the opportunity and started my mortgage orgination career in September of 2017 and haven’t looked back. I was so excited to be able to work in Downtown Detroit, a city that I absolutely love and help folks with their biggest financial decisions. And I got to be a part of the resurgence of Detroit. With my time at Quicken Loans, I specilized in refinance mortgages where I had industry leading training and one of the best work cultures anyone could ask for. As the years went and my age creeped over 30 years old, I felt that I needed something a little more slowed down and community focused. While at Quicken Loans, I was licensed in 19 different states to originate and I could never really get that connection and impact in the community that I was seeking. So in January of 2020, I left Quicken Loans and joined Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union which is where I am today. At MSGCU I was not only doing refinance loans but helping people purchase their homes as well. There is no better feeling seeing homebuyers get the keys to their new house at closing. MSGCU allows me to help people get into better positions on their mortgage, utilize equity for various reasons, help folks purchase their dream home and be involved in the community that I love to serve.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I think anyone that is in the real estate industry will tell you, it is not always easy, Weather it is the market, interest rates, home availability, suprises while in process and a list of others. But I’ve learned over my almost 8 years that you have to make the best of any situation and be the expert. I would say the most challenging times have been these past couple of years. I started at MSGCU right before the COVID shutdown so I had to learn to work from home and battle the challenges of social distancing while trying to close on a mortgage. The good news then was interest rates dropped to all time lowes so things were booming. Then the market shifted and interest rates sky rocketed to rates we haven’t seen in 20+ years. This is an industry of change and you’ve got to be comfortable being uncomfortable and willing to adapt.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I have a passion for helping others and being in the mortgage industry I get to do that everyday. While I do handle refinances, equity, home purchase and vacant land purchase, I take pride in working with first time home buyers. I love educating them about the process and making them feel comfortable with the purchasing a home. There is a lot of moving parts in a real estate transaction and for the normal person, it can be very overwhelming. With my years or expierence, fantastic team behind me, and passion to make things as transparent as possible, I feel I serve my clients exceptionally well. And the thank you and smile I get after they close on their first home just makes getting up for work everyday that much easier.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I am a little obsessed with Jimmy Buffett. Most might think it has to do with Margaritaville, beaches, boat drinks and escapism…… which is definitely part of it but he is an incredible song writer and lead an unbelieveable life. He is someone I admire from a music aspect but as a business professional as well. He truly brings to life the Walt Disney quote of “Growing old is mandatory; growing up is optional. And I’m a firm believer that if you take life to seriously, you’ll never get out alive
