Today we’d like to introduce you to Angel Savage
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I got my soaping journey started in 2020. My mother had just passed away and my oldest sister came over to visit and brought me a bunch of her own handmade soaps. I fell in love with them. Being a homeschooling, SAHM, I didn’t have an income of my own and my sister urged me to start making my own soaps. I started making soap in about July of 2020. They were so ugly and I’m honesty shocked I sold them. At the time all my soaps were made in a cupcake tin and were often mistaken as snacks, not soaps… But that didn’t stop business from growing – thank God!
All of my business growth has been organic, online growth and support from complete strangers (and a few great friends/family members)
I’ve never done a single market or craft fair, though that may change in the next year or two.
In 2023 I rebranded into Soapery 3:22 and made God Almighty the focus of my company. He is the only reason I’ve been able to provide for my family these last four and a half years. I’ve grown so much through trial and error and my products have only gotten better over the last four years. I just choose to never give up, no matter how much I think business won’t pick up – because it always gets better and I’m always learning something new to being to my products so I can have happy customers.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Oh most definitely not. First off, I’m a debt-free business so trying to keep business and personal finances separate has been a challenge in itself.
Also, I had my second child in 2022, so going from working from home, to having a newborn was a huge struggle for me. I had to constantly remind myself that I needed to take a break from working for a while, which was hard because soap making has become my therapy. I still remember sneaking away at nap time to go make a batch or two of soap in the small amount of free time that I had. That was a rough year mentally.
And in general, just trying to keep up with the constant need to create content to keep customers engaged has always been a struggle for me. I’m very reclusive and don’t like to be online all the time, so the fact that I HAVE TO use social media constantly to keep my business running creates a constant struggle for me. Because, it is just me doing everything. I run all of my social media accounts. I create every bit of my content. I pack and ship all the packages. I have to answer all the customer service questions 😅 there are definitely some days where I feel like my entire life revolves around cleaning up after a toddler and running this business.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am definitely different from most business people you’ll find. I was actually homeschooled growing up, and by the time I was old enough to go into the workforce, I became a mother so I have only ever worked for myself. I’ve done some affiliate marketing for a couple companies, but my first real “job” was soap making. I have no qualifications to help me run a business… Most days I have no idea what I’m doing and I’m just praying it all works out.
I specialize in soap making. I work with glycerin soap to be specific. Working with glycerin soap is tough to say the least. It doesn’t work like a cold process or a hot process soap does so I really had to learn over the years how to work with it to make beautiful products. I’m proud of how much I’ve learned and how I’ve been able to formulate some wonderful products the last few years and I’m so excited for all the new projects I have lined up this year.
I would say what sets me apart from the others would definitely be the fact that 1. I’m a Christian based company – Most people aren’t comfortable pouring their faith into their products and making it so “well known” but I choose to do everything for His glory and if that stop somebody from wanting to be my customer, then it wasn’t meant to be.
and 2. the fact that I work with the type of soap I make. Glycerin soap is the most stubborn soap in means of how you can design it. I will eventually move into other types of soap in the future, but there isn’t a huge selection of businesses specializing in glycerin soap out there. and also, all of my products are clean! I don’t use toxin ingredients or toxic fragrances in any of my products. I believe our country has a lot of health issues because of the mass amounts of toxins we’re constantly exposed to and I wanted to make a difference with my products. I’m constantly trying to find new suppliers for my products and I’m always on the hunt for clean fragrance options to ensure that my customers get nothing but the best from me.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love Howell because they have so much love for small businesses and they offer so many wonderful things for families to enjoy!
I dislike the fact that we don’t have a good craft store yet 😂
