Community Highlights: Meet Tammy Gerber of Well in Ludington LLC DBA House on Hansen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tammy Gerber

Hi Tammy , we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in a military family and had a very mobile upbringing. As a Coast Guard family, we moved coast to coast every two years. While I didn’t love all the moving around, I did love settling into each new home. Unboxing the items that made our house and home. At a very young age I learned that what we surround ourselves with matters. I believe our houses should tell the story of who we are, where we’ve been and what we love.
I’ve lived a lot of places but the only place I’ve ever truly called home is a small beach town in Western Michigan. I was born in Ludington but moved shortly after my third birthday. But I spent nearly every summer as a kid on my grandma’s farm in Ludington. Her home on Hansen Road was a significant and stable place for me during my ever-changing childhood.
In 2018 my husband and I made a mid-life leap and moved from Las Vegas NV to Ludington Mi. During the pandemic I completed and Interior Design program from the New School in New York City. Shortly after that I decided to open a Home Décor Boutique in my hometown. I named the boutique after my grandma’s farm, House on Hansen.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Before opening my boutique I had spent two decades teaching yoga and owning my own yoga studio. Opening a boutique was completely foreign to me. I listened to every podcast I could to educate myself on how to open, manage and market a retail store. In those beginning days I was building it as I was flying it!
