Community Highlights: Meet Shannan Myers of Pretty in Polish

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannan Myers.

Hi Shannan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
After almost 20 years in the education field, it was time to resign. thankfully that was the summer before Covid shut everything down. Once things began to open back up, I decided wanted something to do, so I went to Nail Schol. I knew I didn’t want to work for anyone else but wanted to have a fun “hobby” to do from home. Fast forward a yar and half later when my husband and I decided it was time to sell our house and find some new adventures. We did just that. WE came to Montague to visit my parents and have Christmas with them while we waited to leave state for a job in Oregon. A month or so before we were set to leave the job fell through. we talked it over and made the choice to stay here for the winter and see what happens. Little dd we know we would quickly fall in love with this cute little area. About a year after we moved here i decided it was time to put my license to work. Again, not wanting to work for someone else i found a cute little suite (12X10max) and I opened Pretty in Polish. The nerves and anxiety were high…I was in a new town, I knew little to no one. how was I going to make this work. I took off so fast. I booked up, i had a wait list. As I came up on my 1 yr open, I had the opportunity to move from Whitehall to Montague (current location). With a little remodeling to the building I opened Water Street Spa Suites and new home for Pretty in Polish. It has been an adventure. I have been able to expand and offer more services. In addition to nail services, we now offer facials, waxing and soon to come tattoos. I am beyond thankful for the support this community has shown me.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road, but also not a bad road either. I have had to learn to navigate city laws/ordnances. I have had to learn how to run a full-time salon and spa. Navigating having employees and other renters in the building.

We’ve been impressed with Pretty in Polish, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What should we know? -we are a full-service Gel Nail salon and spa.

What do you do, what do you specialize in / what are you known for? We specialize in Gel nails, nail care, facials, and waxing. We are known for the unique setting/decor and relaxing environment. Our salon is very unique, vintage and inviting.

What sets you apart from others? We pride ourselves in quality work, we are not about in and out services It is about the experience you have here. We are here for everyone, no matter what your gender is. We are open to all.

We believe it take a village to survive, if we don’t help each other out then we will all fail. No matter what you do for a living, there is always a way to be a part of your community. we love when we get to participate in community events. We love giving back. Wither it’s our annual Back 2 School drive, or our summer vendor and craft show (support other local business), or helping with community fundraisers.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Spending time with family and friends, shopping being at the beach, chasing sunsets, traveling but most of all Being able to pamper others while teaching them the importance of selfcare. No matter how big or small, self-care is so important.
