Community Highlights: Meet Sarah Fink Carlin of YogaMedics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Fink Carlin.

Hi Sarah, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in a medical family, surrounded by conversations about healing and patient care. In my own life, I experienced how the mind and body are deeply connected, and I saw a gap in healthcare where both physical and psychological needs weren’t always addressed together.

When I discovered yoga, something clicked—I realized it could be adapted into a medically sound, evidence-based tool to help people recover from injury, illness, and trauma. In 2009, I founded YogaMedics to bridge that gap, creating customized therapeutic programs grounded in science and designed to work alongside traditional medicine.

Since then, we’ve brought YogaMedics into hospitals, military programs, rehabilitation centers, and workplaces, helping people of all ages and abilities improve function, reduce pain, and reclaim their quality of life. My work is driven by a belief in grit, compassion, and the power of combining medical expertise with human connection.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When I started YogaMedics, one of the biggest challenges was overcoming skepticism about yoga as a therapeutic intervention. Many medical professionals were unfamiliar with how it could be adapted for serious injuries, chronic conditions, and mental health needs. I had to prove its value by creating research-backed protocols, partnering with respected physicians, and conducting successful pilot programs in hospitals, military settings, and rehabilitation centers.

Another challenge was ensuring that our programs were truly inclusive—safe, adaptable, and effective for clients with a wide range of physical and psychological conditions. This meant constant refinement, integrating feedback from clients and providers, and staying current with emerging medical research so our methods remain at the forefront of integrative care.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At YogaMedics, we deliver customized, evidence-based yoga therapy programs designed for people with complex medical, psychological, and rehabilitative needs. Every protocol is developed in collaboration with medical professionals and grounded in peer-reviewed research.

We work with clients across a wide spectrum—from individuals living with quadriplegia or recovering from spinal injuries, to those managing chronic pain, PTSD, traumatic brain injury, cancer recovery, anxiety, and other conditions. Our sessions integrate multiple therapeutic elements including:

Breathing techniques shown to reduce pain, improve mood, and enhance focus

Massage, reflexology, and aromatherapy for relaxation, circulation, and pain relief

Sound therapy and guided imagery to reduce stress and support emotional regulation

Occupational therapy and cognitive behavioral techniques to build coping skills and functional independence

Meditation and mindfulness practices for resilience, clarity, and self-awareness

Our services are offered in-person, virtually, and at-home, as well as through workplace wellness events designed to boost team health, morale, and productivity. Every client has access to a personal AI-guided wellness portal, enabling them to track progress, follow customized at-home programs, and stay engaged between sessions.

By combining the best of integrative medicine, movement science, and psychological support, YogaMedics helps people feel better, function better, and live better—often achieving measurable results faster than with physical or psychological therapy alone.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I’ve been lucky to have mentors in many forms—some in the medical and business worlds, and many through my clients themselves. Working with people who have faced life-changing injuries, chronic pain, or trauma has been profoundly inspiring. Their determination to reclaim their health, adapt to new realities, and find joy again has taught me as much as any formal mentor could. Each story—whether it’s a veteran learning to manage pain without opioids, or a client in a wheelchair discovering new ways to move and breathe—drives me to keep innovating and improving what we do at YogaMedics. My clients’ courage and resilience have shaped not only my work, but the person I’ve become.
