Community Highlights: Meet Samantha Bennett of Eclectic Elegance

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Bennett.

Hi Samantha, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
It was during a Christmas gathering with family when my aunt surprised me with a gift that would change my life: 100 vintage place settings and the encouragement to create something of my own. That moment planted the seed for what would become Eclectic Elegance, a thriving vintage dish rental and table-setting service for events.

Becoming an entrepreneur wasn’t part of my plan. At the time, I was simply trying to survive, struggling to make ends meet while caring for my family. And, instead of just offering sympathy, my aunt offered support – emotionally and inspirationally. Her generous gift wasn’t just about dishes; it was about her believing in me when I wasn’t sure how to believe in myself.

For the next year, I traveled back and forth from Suttons Bay to Muskegon to learn everything I could from my aunt. We sorted through decades of her collected dishware as I learned about the unique pieces and listened to her stories. While spending this cherished time with my aunt, I was slowly building the foundation of the business I have today.

In December 2019, I officially launched Eclectic Elegance, just before the world shut down. Like so many small businesses, the pandemic made everything uncertain. Events were canceled, gatherings paused, and momentum stalled. But during that quiet time, I kept going. I collected more pieces, organized my growing inventory, and sharpened my vision.

Today, every plate, every glass, and every fork we use is hand-selected and full of character to create beautifully set tables for weddings, showers, parties, and special gatherings. We don’t just drop off dishes. We arrive, set the table with delicate care, and return later to clear and clean. It’s full service with a vintage soul.

What started as one woman’s gift has grown into something I’m deeply proud of. Every year, we have more events than the last. But more than the growth of the business, I feel immense joy every time someone sits at one of our tables and smiles at the charm of a mismatched teacup or a gold-rimmed plate.

This journey has taught me that beauty is in the details, growth requires patience, and that sometimes, the smallest acts of generosity – such as a box of old dishes – can spark something truly meaningful.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I started Eclectic Elegance just before COVID-19 hit, which, as you can imagine, brought everything to a sudden halt. Events were canceled, weddings postponed — it definitely stalled our growth in those early years. But looking back, that downtime gave us a hidden gift: extra time to build our foundation. We were able to collect more pieces, refine our collections, and get organized so that when events came back, we were ready to shine. In a way, COVID slowed us down just long enough to prepare us for the busier seasons ahead.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Eclectic Elegance?
What should you know?

I want people to know that Eclectic Elegance isn’t just about renting dishes — it’s about creating stunning, stress-free, and sustainable moments. We put as much care into service as we do into our collections, which already include three distinct styles. For dinner plates, we offer both patterned and cream collections. For salad plates, we have florals, creams, and art plates. And for goblets, clients can choose between clear and colored. Every event can have its own unique look and feel. As our business grows, so will our collections — providing people with even more ways to create tables that are beautiful, memorable, and eco-friendly.

What are we known for?

We’re most known for our exceptional service and stunning presentation. Our clients praise us for being kind and professional, for making the process easy, and for transforming a venue into something magical with our vintage pieces. Reviews say things like “‘hands down the nicest group to work with’” and “‘they delivered sparkling clean, stunning dishes” and “they made our wedding look beautiful and run smoothly.’” At the end of the day, we’re remembered for both the beauty of our dinnerware and the peace of mind we give our clients.

What sets us apart from others?

What sets us apart? We save dishes and the planet. We give a second life to the plates, crystal, and silver that many people no longer want—rescuing them from attics, thrift shops, and estate sales. We give them some love, shine up the silver, and boom—beautiful, reusable tableware. Our vintage collection helps keep thousands of single-use plastics and paper products out of landfills every year. In that year, Americans tossed out over 40 billion plastic utensils. That’s enough forks to poke the moon! It’s that combination of eco-consciousness, craftsmanship, and preservation that makes us unique. When someone rents from us, they’re not only getting a beautiful table setting, but they’re also making a meaningful choice for the planet.

What am I most proud of brand-wise?

We create experiences, not just beautiful tables. Anyone can rent dishes — but we transform events. Our vintage pieces have “transformed a simple wedding venue into something beyond special.” That’s not just logistics, that’s artistry. Our reviews glow with gratitude. Couples and families remember not only how gorgeous their tables looked, but also how good we made them feel throughout the whole process. We care for our clients, for our dishes, and for the planet. What we create has an emotional and environmental impact, and that’s something that I’m very proud of.

What do I want your readers to know?

I want people to know that Eclectic Elegance isn’t just about renting dishes — it’s about creating stunning, stress-free, and sustainable moments that people will remember forever.

What are your plans for the future?
Our next big step is building our own warehouse so we can store and care for our growing collections under one roof. We’re excited to keep expanding the vintage sets we already have while also creating new collections that give clients even more options to match their style. A big focus for us is getting the word out — helping more people realize they don’t need to settle for disposable dinnerware when they can have something beautiful, sustainable, and stress-free. And of course, we’re looking forward to many more busy Northern Michigan summers filled with weddings and celebrations.
