Today we’d like to introduce you to Robin Krug.
Hi Robin, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started out making and selling products from my home over 10 years ago. I have always tried ro supplement my income as a stay at home mother to help bring in extra cash flow. Eventually I found that I was called to do more with my life and in felt led to serve my community. Even though I have reevaluate and rebranded over the years with that my offerings are to the public, I have always had a heart set on serving my local community. I now have a thriving business where I offer baked goods, sourdough classes, natural living products and home items. Most recently I completed my trainings to become a birth and postpartum doula, something I have felt led to do after having my own children. I am now a proud member of the Blue Water Doula Collective in Port Huron.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I have had my fair share of struggles along the way but each challenge has led me to where I am now. At first, financial burdens were the main challenge. Now as time has passed I find that the only true struggles I have are often the time constraints I have. I currently work full time for a non profit company while also running my home based businesses and serving as a doula.
Self doubt held me back from really operating to my fullest potential in all aspects of my life. As someone who experienced trauma as a child, I found that breaking through the self.limoting thoughts and healing completely as an adult, allowed me to really start thriving and not just surviving.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m the heart behind The Barefoot Gardener and a birth and postpartum doula serving families in our community. At the core of everything I do is a deep love for nurturing—whether that looks like feeding people well, tending to the rhythms of the seasons, or holding space for new life and new beginnings.
The Barefoot Gardener is a micro bakery rooted in seasonal living, intentional ingredients, and a touch of earth-loving magic. I specialize in yeasted and sourdough breads, along with a rotating selection of cookies, muffins, baklava, and specialty baked goods made with care and high-quality ingredients. Beyond the oven, I also offer custom organic spice blends, simmer pot kits, sourdough pancake mix, health, home, beauty and other natural living goods, as well as seasonal plants and herbs that reflect my love of gardening and sustainable, home-centered living.
Throughout the year—especially during the holidays—you’ll see my offerings infused with natural, witchy-inspired décor, honoring the cycles of nature, the warmth of the hearth, and the quiet magic of handmade traditions. I also host sourdough classes, creating space for learning, connection, and community.
Alongside my work as a baker and maker, I am honored to serve as a birth and postpartum doula and a proud member of the Blue Water Doula Collective. I am deeply committed to providing compassionate, inclusive, and empowering care for every family I support. My approach is trauma-informed, rooted in the belief that every birthing person deserves autonomy, equitable care, and to feel truly seen and heard throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.
I bring a calm, nurturing presence to each family I work with—holding space for first breaths, tender transitions, and the many emotions that come with welcoming new life. Through advocacy, informed choice, and gentle support, my goal is to help families feel confident, safe, and deeply cared for during one of life’s most transformative experiences.
I belive I stand out because I weave together seasonal baking, natural living, and compassionate birth and postpartum doula care with a deeply rooted, heart-centered approach. Whether its tending sourdough, blending herbs and spices, teaching classes, or holding space for families during pregnancy and postpartum, my work is guided by intention, inclusivity, and respect for the natural rhythms of life.
As both a skilled maker and a trauma-informed doula I bring a rare blend of creativity, advocacy, and calm presence. My offerings honor handmade traditions, sustainable living, and the belief that people deserve to feel nourished, supported, and truly seen—at the table, in the home, and during life’s most transformative moments.
At the heart of it all is community: creating spaces for connection, learning, healing, and care—one loaf, one conversation, and one family at a time.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I have found that local is key. Any chance to meet other in person is a positive step forward. Being open and honest about your strengths, weaknesses and what your goals are helps others to understand what you may need. Start small with networking and expand as you feel comfortable. Connecting with others in the are who share the same passions is a great start. Meeting for coffee or planning an event of your own is a great start.
