Today we’d like to introduce you to Radhika Bhagat.
Hi Radhika, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I opened my physical therapy practice 5 years ago. At the time, it was just me and an open door hoping someone would walk in. Since then, I have grown to having 6 employee and have outgrown my current space. We are in the process of constructing our new location on Dexter-Ann -Arbor Rd in Dexter which is set to open in March 2023. I wanted to open an independent physical therapy practice to get away from the assembly-line PT that everyone is used to seeing in big-box therapy. I wanted patients to receive one on one treatment and stay with one physical therapist. It’s the way physical therapy should be.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There are always challenges when you are running your own business. The biggest struggle for us was to figure out a way to get doctors to send referrals our way. I had to do things backward in that I had to treat clients first and then request a referral from their PCP. As clients got better and went back to their PCP with positive feedback about the PT they received and how they were impressed by the services provided, more doctors started sending clients my way. This opened my doors to the U of M and IHA network.
As you know, we’re big fans of Care2Cure Physical Therapy PC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Care2Cure Physical Therapy is in independent physical therapy practice. We treat a variety of diagnoses including, orthopedic conditions, lymphedema management, post-cancer care, chronic pain, sport injuries, post-surgical care, fall management, etc. We also have therapists specialized in dry needling. This is an adjunct treatment used alongside physical therapy to decrease pain and typically decreases duration of physical therapy. We are different than other clinics because our focus is the patient. We provide individualized care and spend time listening to the patient.
What were you like growing up?
I was a very shy introverted individual what liked to do puzzles and legos. My husband is quite the opposite and he is the one who encouraged and supported me to open my own business. The experience I have gotten through networking and communicating with others within my business really has helped me build confidence in myself and has brought me outside of my shell.
