Community Highlights: Meet Raag Dhawan of Motown Detroit Style Pizza

Today we’d like to introduce you to Raag Dhawan. 

Hi Raag, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
So, I’ve always been very enthusiastic about food though can’t cook to save my life. But I love to order food, try new food, and appreciate food with great quality. When I decided to get into the food business, I knew I had to do something that was a novelty and something that was a new experience for everyone in the market. I remember seeing a television show one night about Detroit Motorcity and was amazed when I saw the rectangular Detroit pizza! 

Pizzas have always been one of my go-to food options and a nice deep-dish meaty pizza is always a great idea. Thus, when I decided I want to do food, Detroit Style Pizza was what I wanted to do. It was something new, tastes fantastic if made with the correct technique, and a feast for someone who loves good food. That’s how Motown Detroit Style Pizza was born 

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No new road is always smooth. Every new path has its own learnings and challenges. My biggest challenge was that I was not a chef myself but yet I knew the flavors I wanted. From finding the correct recipes to identifying the proper equipment, everything was a challenge. I had to custom create everything but learnt a lot in the bargain. 

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Like I mentioned earlier, Motown is the first brand in India to bring the experience of Detroit Pizzas to India. We’ve seen a whole variety of pizzas that exist in the market but no one makes what we do and I am proud to have introduced the audience to something that’s new, fresh, and a new experience. 

We emphasize a LOT on quality – quality of raw material, meat, and other ingredients that go into making a Detroit pizza, and even though we are new brand, we take pride in having 80% repeat customers. This means people like the quality of food we produce and get happiness in what we make. That has been my biggest satisfaction milestone!
