Community Highlights: Meet Misty Renee of Skin + Halo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Misty Renee.

Hi Misty, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
When I first opened Skin + Halo, I wasn’t setting out to start a business — I was answering a calling.

I’ve always been drawn to beauty and wellness, but it was the Japanese head spa that completely captivated me. The experience felt sacred. Gentle, intentional, and healing in a way that went far beyond the scalp. I knew I wanted to bring that feeling to women here. A place where they could rest their minds, feel held, and reconnect with themselves — not just another salon treatment, but something much more nurturing and transformative.

Skin + Halo began with a vision: to create a serene, luxurious space rooted in Japanese-inspired rituals that prioritize scalp health, skin integrity, and emotional well-being. In the early days, it was just me, my head spa bed, and a lot of long nights studying techniques and crafting the experience. Little did I know how many women would walk through the door carrying silent struggles — from hair loss to hormonal shifts to burnout. That changed everything.

Seeing the emotional toll that hair and scalp issues were taking on my clients, I began diving deeper into trichology — the science of the hair and scalp. I recently earned my certification as a Hair Loss Practitioner, and will be continuing on to become a certified Trichologist. It’s become a core part of my mission to support women not only through indulgent rituals, but also through real solutions backed by science.

Skin + Halo has grown with me. It’s still that same sanctuary I dreamed of — but now with deeper purpose, deeper care, and a growing community of women who know they’re safe here. And I feel like I’m just getting started.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been a beautiful journey, but definitely not without its challenges.

Even with a business background, building something from the ground up — especially something as niche and experience-focused as a Japanese-inspired head spa — came with a steep learning curve. There were times I questioned everything. Would people understand what I was offering? Would they value it the way I did? Would this actually work?

Working solo has been both a blessing and a challenge. I love being hands-on in every part of Skin + Halo — from curating each treatment to designing the client experience. But that also means I wear every hat, every day. There’s no one to pass things off to when it gets overwhelming, and no built-in sounding board when tough decisions arise.

One of the biggest hurdles was stepping out of my comfort zone and trusting my instincts — even when the path wasn’t clear. Whether it was investing in education, pivoting my services, or simply staying the course when things got quiet, I’ve had to bet on myself more times than I can count.

It hasn’t been easy — but the hard moments have made the wins even sweeter. Every step has brought me closer to the kind of business I always dreamed of running.

We’ve been impressed with Skin + Halo, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Skin + Halo is a luxury Japanese-inspired head spa that blends scalp therapy, skincare, and holistic wellness into one deeply restorative experience. At its core, it’s a sanctuary for women — a space where beauty meets intention and every detail is crafted to support inner and outer well-being.

We specialize in scalp-focused rituals that not only feel amazing, but are rooted in real science. Using techniques inspired by Japanese head spa traditions — along with curated products like Milbon and others chosen for both efficacy and integrity — we address scalp health, hair vitality, and stress relief in a truly unique way.

What sets us apart is the way we treat the scalp and skin as a reflection of the whole person. Each service is more than just pampering — it’s purposeful. From Halo Water Therapy to our signature treatments using spa mist and lymphatic techniques, everything is designed to calm the nervous system, support circulation, and restore balance.

I’m recently earned my certification as a Hair Loss Practitioner and will continue my studies to become a certified Trichologist. This direction is allowing me to expand our offerings into more targeted solutions for women experiencing hair thinning, hormonal changes, and scalp conditions — which is a space that’s often underserved and overlooked.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the feeling Skin + Halo evokes. People walk in and immediately feel transported — like they’ve stepped into a hidden sanctuary. The experience is gentle, elegant, and healing, but also grounded in research, training, and intention.

More than anything, I want readers to know that Skin + Halo is not just a beauty service — it’s care, it’s connection, and it’s a moment to return to yourself. If you’ve never experienced a head spa before, this isn’t just about your hair — it’s about how you feel when you leave.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something that surprises a lot of people is that I’m actually quite introverted. Because Skin + Halo is such a hands-on, one-on-one experience, people often assume I’m naturally extroverted — but in truth, I really thrive in quiet, intentional spaces. That’s probably why the atmosphere I’ve created feels so calm and reflective. It’s not just for my clients — it’s for me, too.

Another thing people might not know is how obsessed I am with learning. Some might even call it a full-on addiction. I’m constantly enrolling in courses — even on topics I’ve already studied — because I always feel like there’s another layer to uncover or a fresh perspective to absorb. Whether it’s scalp science, head spa techniques, product knowledge, or even the business side of things, I’m always chasing growth and deeper understanding.

And maybe the most unexpected thing of all? Skin + Halo started as just a quiet idea — no splashy launch, no blueprint. Just a feeling I couldn’t ignore. I followed that spark, and it’s led me here.
