Today we’d like to introduce you to MIchele Coy.
Hi MIchele, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Entrepreneurship is a journey. My journey started as a young child who loved teaching and putting puzzle pieces together. At the age of 16, I began working in an accounting firm, where I spent the next 18 years honing my skills. Over the next 8 years, I spent time in small business environment where I learned skills that would lead me on my entrepreneurial journey. I was working at a Tribal Government when one morning I heard a voice say “You are meant for more.” This lead me to take a leap of faith in 2018 to begin my own business to help business owners and leaders understand their own value and express it with the world. However, before I could help, I had to learn my own value and understand how to express it. I began the journey opening a bookkeeping business because this was where I was comfortable and brought certainty. Later when COVID hit, I dived into the mindset of entrepreneurs and studied Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP), which lead me to coaching on Money Mindset. Money Mindset was helping business owners and leaders understand their beliefs around money which translated into their attitude and behaviors with money. Money Mindset Coaching led into the “Meant for more” as I stepped into becoming a Business and Leadership Strategist, where I could incorporate teaching, training, putting puzzle pieces together, NLP, accounting and money mindset. Clients have called me a business therapist because my curiosity about the root cause leads to deeper thinking and problem solving in the process.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Entrepreneurship is a journey not a destination. The road is smooth until it isn’t. When the bumps come up in the road, you have a choice how you are going to react them. My journey is full of experiments. When life brings bumps, I jump into mad scientist mode and begin to experiment with solutions to the challenges.
My journey began as a bump. I left Corporate America to find myself on the couch, burned out from unalignment to my passion and wondering where to start. I met Debi Howe through SCORE who helped me begin the journey as a bookkeeping company. However, when COVID hit, like many businesses, the business dried up because the work that I was doing was non-essential unless I was completing payroll for the companies.
After COVID, I was encouraged by a coach to step into a Business and Leadership Strategist role; however, I had a huge road block hit me. John Maxwell, one of my mentors, always says that Leadership is a responsibility and I had a road block around responsibility. As I was growing up, financial responsibility was placed upon me as the oldest child, which looking back was some of the most valuable lessons through this challenging responsibility. With the help of a mindset coach, I was able to see the lessons as well as seeing responsibility as a choice not a requirement.
One of the biggest challenge through this was repositioning myself from a Bookkeeper to a Business and Leadership Strategist. The value in which I could bring to organization changed and I had to help the business community see the new value that could help their businesses transform.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Michele Coy Enterprises, LLC help business owners understand their financial stories and help business owners turn their profitability leaks into leverage that they can use.
If you are a new business, we offer a QuickBooks setup, training, and consultation. We help you kick your business off for success with a in-depth consultation to create a Chart of Accounts that is meaningful to your business and will help you create your financial statement as a decision-making tool. We suggest categorizing your own transactions for at least 6 months before delegating it to a bookkeeper.
For existing businesses and scaling businesses, we begin with helping you understand your financial story. What does your financial story tell you? Can you see where challenges happened in your business and how you responded to those challenges? Can you make decisions looking at your financial statements?
Next, we investigate the leaks within the business which is decreasing profitability and cash flow. Is there a bottleneck with the owner making all of the decisions? Are your processes repeatable and trainable? Does your leadership need additional training?
Lastly, we create a plan to work with the owner, leadership team, and the team members to increase profitability. These trainings come in a variety of ways, such as Money Mindset training, workshops, group coaching, or one-on-one coaching.
Michele Coy Enterprises is unique because we investigate to get the root cause looking at both your financial statements on a deep level and then integrate leadership training. We break down complex ideas to easy to understand processes so everyone on the team understands the process. We partner with a variety of different services to provide a holistic approach to assisting your business.
We recognize each business is unique and we customize the program to meet the needs of your team. We align actions with company values and mission.
