Community Highlights: Meet Melissa Crull of Sacred Waters Massage

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Crull.

Hi Melissa, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In 2002, I began my massage therapy career at Halsa Hem School of Massage in Springfield, IL. I became a licensed massage therapist in 2005 and briefly worked at a massage clinic then a hair salon in Peoria, Illinois until June 2006 before I moved to Traverse City, MI. I was a massage therapist at the Grand Traverse Resort from Oct 2006-Dec 2010 until I moved to Chicago, IL. I worked at the Massage Envy there from April 2011-June 2012 and decided that Traverse City was calling me home. After moving back, I did massage as an independent contractor for a short while at a few places and everything was showing me to become self employed. So I started my business in April 2013. As a local small business owner, my vision is to remind clients that their health is their most important investment. And just as the water that surrounds us is sacred and valued, so are we since we are vessels of water.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The acknowledgement of massage therapy in the western medical field has grown exponentially throughout the past few decades. It hasn’t always received the same recognition then as it has now. I’m thankful that more doctors and health professionals are realizing the importance of this ancient healing method. People are valuing their overall wellbeing and prioritizing their health. Massage therapy isn’t considered a luxury as much as it was in the past. Not only does it help the physical body, but it also brings mental and emotional balance in addition to calming the nervous system.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I enjoy helping others feel better while they learn to understand how their body is moving and adapting through their daily routines and life choices. I integrate various modalities for clients when they are needed. My styles of bodywork include Swedish massage, Acupressure point therapy, meridians, Craniosacral Therapy, and Thai massage. Massage also may include sound therapy with tuning forks and Tibetan Sound Bowls which assists in bringing harmony and balance to the body and mind.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Referrals are always welcome and appreciated. I value the network of professionals and clients that I have spent time building and getting to know over the years. Community and collaborating with others is very helpful and important to me. It’s what allows me to thrive and continue being passionate in my career. I love combining creative interests such as: yoga, massage, dance, meditation, and music. Creating new ideas is something that I do best as well as sharing them with others.
