Community Highlights: Meet Layla Tiba of Detroit Lash Co and Beauty By Layla T

Today we’d like to introduce you to Layla Tiba.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I began my journey as wanting to be a teacher attending Wayne state university. I worked at a salon part time and fell in love with the idea of working for yourself. The next day I headed to wayne state and dropped out of all my classes. I then sat with my parents and they did not take it easy that i was leaving my degree to pursue a plan i never thought about or planned. I waited a year and i was dirt broke. I had no money to my age even though i was young. I began practicing lashes and fell in love with it. I then asked my parents to enroll me in esthetician school and they agreed. During my time I began reaching out to beauty brands and building my name on social media. I started sponsorships and ambassadorships with some of my favorite brands. I then dropped my own lash company after seeing what i like and don’t like from suppliers. Detroit Lash all sold out within a month. I finished school and got my license and grew my clientele. I couldn’t imagine any of this without the support of my parents.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I had a 1.8 gpa in high school and barely graduated. I knew getting into college would be difficult. I dropped out twice. No plan. I doubted myself. I was dirt broke. My parents were extremely worried about my future. I had people doubt me. Hate on me. Throughout all my hardships I prayed to god to send me to the right path for me.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I own a Lash Company called Detroit Lash Co. I sell lash clusters and kits to girls in metro detroit. I worked very hard on finding a manufacturer that fit all of my standards. I also am the face behind Beauty By Layla T. I dedicate my time to perfecting my craft and working to be the best esthetician i can be.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
