Today we’d like to introduce you to Krystal Middleton
Hi Krystal, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Born and raised in Detroit, MI! I am a first-generation college graduate who grew up in a single-parent, low-income household. I attended Wayne State University where I earned my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Business. Because I grew up in a low-income household, I challenged myself to do better financially and in my career to build a better life for myself and my family. When I was in graduate school, I started my debt-free journey to pay off my student loans so that in turn, I could save and invest more money for my future. As I was on this journey, I tracked my progress on social media and my followers started asking me how was I paying off so much debt and if I could help them do the same. I also discovered in this process that there was so much I didn’t know about how money worked.
My debt-free journey created Talk Money With Mel! A coaching service that truly educates the community on financial literacy and puts together personalized financial game plans for families, individuals, and entrepreneurs to achieve their financial goals.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Becoming a first-generation entrepreneur has not been easy. There are many challenges that come along with being an entrepreneur — from not having support from family and friends — to figuring out what systems work for your business. However, one of the biggest cheat codes as an entrepreneur is having a mentor in the industry to help guide you in the process of growing and scaling your business.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Talk Money With Mel?
I am “Talk Money With Mel” a Licensed Financial Coach! First, I personally educate my clients and community on personal finance concepts and strategies that they don’t teach in school. Then I create a personalized plan to get them out of debt, save and invest more money, and properly protect their income so they can have the foundation to build generational wealth.
I am known as the Debt Specialist because that’s where I started with my personal finances.
I’m not just another financial coach, I authentically share my personal finance journey (the good, the bad, and the ugly) to truly help others. I want people to know that I was just like them and still am in some ways when it comes to money but I want my clients to know that I am here to help every step of the way and I proudly share my personal journey to help encourage others to get on a better path by educating first – always.
I am most proud of sharing my story with others because it shows vulnerability and I want people to know that if I can change my finances — so can you.
