Community Highlights: Meet Kiran Javed of Nile Event Decor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiran Javed.

Hi Kiran, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I can’t say I was born a decorator, but I was definitely raised as one. Growing up in an Air Force family meant we were constantly relocating to different bases. Every few years brought a new house with a completely different layout, size, and character. That unpredictability trained my eye early . I learned how to assess a space quickly and understand its potential.

No matter what the house looked like, my mother would transform it. She was meticulous about presentation — from how furniture was positioned to how china, crystals, and decorative pieces were displayed. Lighting, symmetry, flow , everything mattered. My father handled the technical side, adjusting fixtures, installing pieces, fixing details, always under her clear creative direction.

They hosted often, and events in our home were never casual or thrown together. Tables were carefully set, centerpieces thoughtfully arranged, and every element had intention. Even though we had staff, we were always involved in setup. I learned early how to dress a table properly, how spacing affects visual balance, how presentation elevates the entire experience.

I was fascinated by how small changes could completely shift the ambiance of a room , moving furniture to improve flow, adjusting lighting to create warmth, repositioning décor to create impact. When my mother stepped out, I would experiment myself, rearranging pieces and refining layouts. She encouraged that instinct by trusting my adjustments.

That passion followed me into school. Anytime there was an event, I naturally stepped into the decorating process. Many of my teachers trusted my aesthetic judgment and gave me the responsibility to help design and set up school functions. That early trust strengthened my confidence and sharpened my ability to create environments that felt polished and engaging.
I learned that decoration is not just about beauty, it’s about creating an immersive environment where guests feel invited, comfortable, and engaged from the moment they walk in.
That early exposure to transformation, staging, and event preparation is what naturally led me into professional event decorating.
That realization led to the creation of Nile Decor—a brand rooted in artistry, visual storytelling, and the belief that thoughtfully designed spaces can truly transform how people live and feel.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely was not a smooth road. There was a very steep learning curve in the beginning. I didn’t have a guideline or a mentor to teach me—I started completely on my own and learned through experience. This industry also requires heavy upfront investment, and early on I made mistakes by purchasing products and inventory that I later realized I didn’t need. Those missteps were costly, but they became valuable lessons. Over time, you learn what works, what doesn’t, and you become wiser and more intentional in your decisions.

One of the biggest ongoing challenges is the physical demand and extremely long hours. There are times when I work 22 hours straight and get only a couple of hours of sleep. A typical event day can start as early as 4 a.m., loading the truck, decorating throughout the day, finishing setup by late afternoon, and then returning just a few hours later for teardown once the event ends. When I’m also handling photography for the same event, the workload becomes even more intense.

The long hours are physically exhausting and very demanding on the body, but they’re part of building something meaningful. Despite the challenges, the growth, experience, and resilience gained along the way make it worth it.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Nile Events Decor is an extension of Nile Photography, now an independent business based in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. We specialize in event decoration services on all scales—from weddings, engagement ceremonies, bridal showers, baby showers, and birthday parties, to corporate events, Christmas parties, and charity functions. We take care of everything from start to finish: decorating halls, creating backdrops, arranging centerpieces, setting tables and chairs—everything needed to bring a space to life.

We’ve made Nile Events Decor a one-stop service, so clients can either rent items or hire our team to fully execute the setup, often alongside our photography and printing services. This offers convenience and a seamless experience, eliminating the need to work with multiple vendors.

What sets us apart is our vibrant, extensive floral collection and the energy we bring to every event. We work with many different communities, blending styles for Middle Eastern, Asian, and Western events. This results in colorful, unique designs that reflect the diversity of our clients while maintaining elegance and cohesion.

What I’m most proud of is the beauty and magical feeling our work creates. When clients see our designs—on Instagram, our website, or at the event—they often say, “Oh my God, this is so beautiful.” That response is exactly why I do what I do: I want people to feel transported, elevated, and immersed in a moment of pure beauty. Achieving that has taken immense hard work, but it’s always worth it.

I want readers to know that Nile Events Decor isn’t just about decoration—it’s about creating memorable, meaningful, and stunning experiences. We offer rentals, full setup, photography services, and guaranteed client satisfaction, which is reflected in our glowing feedback on all our social media platforms.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
For me, the best way to network has been through giving back to the community. I didn’t do it to benefit myself—it came from the heart—but in the process, it naturally helped build relationships and trust. Over the years, I’ve contributed to projects like downtown missions, local churches, mosques, hospitals, universities, and organizations supporting youth, the homeless, and people struggling with addiction. Even when these organizations offered payment, we often declined because the priority was to give back and support the communities that our business relies on.

This has been the most fulfilling part of my work. It’s not just about money—it’s about seeing the impact, helping others, and creating genuine connections. As an immigrant, giving selflessly also helps break stereotypes and build bridges between different communities. Giving back is at the core of my personal character, and being able to do it through my business has been deeply rewarding.

Ultimately, giving first—without expecting anything in return—has been the most meaningful way to network, foster trust, and create lasting relationships while also making a positive impact.
