Hi Kenyatta, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have enjoyed making crafts since I was a child, and I have spent quite a bit of time learning new methods and using them to make gifts and party favors for my family and friends. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I found myself with fewer opportunities to craft and wanted a creative outlet to help me cope with the stress and anxiety of everything happening in the world at that time. I thought about how some of my friends and family have mentioned that they struggle with choosing gifts for their loved ones, and I knew that with my love of crafting and gift giving that I could help reduce that struggle. So, in November 2021, I decided to create A Box of Dazzle.

A Box of Dazzle is a specialized gift-giving service dedicated to making every occasion memorable through thoughtfully curated gifts for personal and corporate giving. I believe that a gift is more than just an item—it’s an expression of connection, care, and celebration. For three years, A Box of Dazzle has offered gifts that cater to various tastes and budgets including curated gift boxes and other crafts. Whether it’s for birthdays, holidays, or ‘just because,’ I simplify the process of finding the perfect present, making gift-giving an enjoyable and stress-free experience

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of my major struggles has been my battle with perfectionism. I often have difficulty pushing myself to show my creations to the public if I am not confident that they are my definition of perfect. However, I remind myself that perfectionism is a barrier to progress and push myself to move forward.

Also, because my business does not have a brick-and-mortar location, I often participate in small business vendor events and it is difficult choosing events that has a high foot traffic with customers that are interested in my products. Luckily, there are several in the Metro Detroit area, so I have several options to consider.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about A Box of Dazzle?
I strive to add some ease and joy to gift giving by creating gifts that are customized to the receiver. If you are interested in giving a gift, you would simply provide me with the occasion, budget and a few details about the receiver, and I will create a beautiful gift that meets all of those requirements. The gifts are also created in boxes suitable for shipping, so it can be sent to any location without any additional effort from the purchaser. Additionally, I create other crafts such as acrylic lights and ornaments that can also be customized.

I’m most proud of the fact that I have been able to positively impact small business owners and non-profits by helping them to provide gifts to their clients. Corporate gifts help to retain clients, but they can be very costly; so, it is important that organizations provide impactful gifts at a low cost. Through A Box of Dazzle, I have been able to help multiple business owners to provide personalized gifts that are relevant to their clients and tailored to the occasion without breaking the bank.
