Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Wallace .
Hi Josh, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
10 years before I became a licensed realtor, I worked for FELD Inc., traveling country throughout every major city, working in sales for one of the largest companies. During my early career, I invested in real estate back home in Michigan, managing rental properties and home renovations. I met my soon-to-be wife in Ocean Beach San Diego in 2015. In the spring if 2016, we got off the road from traveling to settle down and start a life together.
I always loved seeing the different style.
Architecture and history in homes, and oddly enough was always intrigued with hearing all the legal lingo whenever I was purchasing and selling home on my own.
After 10 years in sales, I decided to apply for a real estate license and took off shortly after. I’ve always loved working with people and quickly realized how much of an impact we can make in one’s life and our local communities.
In today’s age, with big tech, social media, etc. I wanted to break the mold of the traditional brick-and-mortar corporate structure and create an independent brokerage with a culture and model that could make a positive impact for our clients and our colleagues.
In 2019, I passed my associates broker exam, planning for a future to go independent. In early 2020, I gave notice to my prior brokerage that I was leaving to start my own firm.
Within a couple weeks of starting, the pandemic stopped everything… giving me opportunity for self-doubt. During this time, I dove into refining my aspirations within the real estate industry. Once everything opened back up, I was off to meet with past and present clients to inform them of my new journey.!
As of this month, our brokerage has opened up its second location, and I’m beyond excited to be established in another community to give our clients more options and the best service we can provide.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There’s highs and lows in every workplace… The highs and lows in the real estate industry can be very humbling at times. Our industry is very easy to miss conceive, very often with the commission pay schedule and the lifestyle. The real estate industry is can be a very lucrative career. Early in my career, I hit target goals, sales/volume year after year… However, to become successful there are sacrifices that go with it.
One of the main struggles I had starting off was the lack of ability to “turn it off.” Most professional businesses like dentists, family doctors, attorneys, insurance agents, etc. are open at 9 am and close at 5 pm, typically Monday through Friday. The real estate industry is as they say is “open 24 hours”.
After a while, I felt burnout, fatigue and realized this was affecting my mental health and my family. Service and customer satisfaction within my business is and always will be a top priority, but I knew I had to “turn it off” at times. I’ve instilled this motto within our agency to create healthy and profitable lifestyles for our agents at Wallace & Associates- Lakeside Realty.
