Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Rezik
Hi Jessica, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
After having my first child at 28, I struggled with post-partum depression and that’s when my fitness journey began. At first, I was determined to lose the baby weight but it soon became more mental than physical. I later became a fitness instructor after having my second child and turned my passion of exercise and my background in customer service into helping others find the joy in fitness. I wanted others, especially those who didn’t love to work out, to see just how much it could help them too. For their mind, body and overall health. I instructed group fitness classes in a gym that had Pilates reformers, so at first I taught myself with online resources. I began incorporating mat and reformer workouts with my strength training and that’s when I saw the most results. In 2020 during the pandemic I began filming workouts from home and teaching outdoor classes. The following summer our gym opened up again, but sadly couldn’t keep up post-pandemic. I started teaching outdoor classes on a rooftop in Dearborn with my first classes having 3-5 people in them and classes 3 weeks later at upwards of 20 people. Word of mouth spread and majority of my classes started to become filled with people I’ve never met before. I always knew I wanted something for myself after having my children. Fitness excites me and when done right, can spark something inside of someone that could change their entire life. With my extensive background in customer service beginning with Ritz-Carlton Hotels, I wanted to fuse customer service and fitness to create my own boutique studio that caters to clients who want something for themselves that makes them feel good, look good and improves their life. I began spreading the news that I was opening up my own studio of mat, hiit and reformer Pilates while finishing up my certification. A few lost locations and set backs later and I opened up my first studio in Dearborn, MI in the summer of 2023 with fully booked and waitlisted classes. I remember the night before we opened my husband and I cleaned the studio until around 1am and said “what if no one shows up” flash forward to now and they won’t stop showing up! We’re busier than ever and the buzz and energy inside the studio is electric! The following summer I opened our second studio in Plymouth, MI and am currently scouting for locations 3 and 4!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I have experience in so many different fields. From spas to fitness studios…hotels to banks and I think that helped me when I opened my own studio. I knew exactly what I did or did not want to make this business run as smoothly as it could. It was pretty smooth, I’m not going to lie but was it easy? No. It was a struggle finding instructors and I worked almost all of of my classes every week… mornings, nights, doubles and weekends. I opened our doors with over 35 classes per week with just myself and one other instructor, and I was so grateful for her. I strive to make connections and remember every face that walks in the door and because I love doing that so much it can become exhausting, but in a good way. The biggest struggle now is juggling my momlife ( I have two littles. 6 and 9), wife-life (my husband is a busy physician) and business owner life all while teaching majority of classes in my Deaborn Studio. But if that is my biggest struggle, then I can’t really call it one. I am blessed with wonderful clients, employees and a family that is so supportive.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I want readers to know that when you join Reform, you are not just coming in to take a class. You will feel like family and have an always challenging work out. You’ll see results and make friendships. I am most proud of the community I have created and nurtured, I’m so proud of the staff i’ve hired, the reputation we maintain and how so many clients come in telling us how we have changed their life for the better. How they hated working out or have never been consistent until they found us. What sets us a part is our workouts, our style, our sweat, our aesthetic and the way we make you feel important and welcome. Our brand has become a very well known name in such a short amount of time and as we continue to grow we will make it even better for our incredible clients.
Reform Infrared Pilates is the first Athletic reformer Pilates studio in Michigan with all infrared heated classes bringing the benefits of infrared heat and dynamic reformer Pilates, as well as, HIIT x Mat Pilates. With our certified instructors, top of the line reformer beds, infrared panels and athletic reformer classes you’ll be sure to be dripping in sweat and leave feeling better than when you walked in.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I’m not a risk taker, I never have been, but I am confident in what I am capable of and what I have to do to achieve success. And I don’t mean success as in money, I mean success in happy clients, staff and growth of a brand that I so strongly believe in. And if I fail, that will be ok too as long as I knew I gave it my all. Once my kids started full time school I jumped both feet in with the support of my amazing husband. We stopped saying “what if” and just DID. We haven’t looked back since.
