Community Highlights: Meet Jermont Reece of Kzoo Boxing, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jermont Reece.

Jermont , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
In high school, I knew I wanted to open a gym because this is around the same time I became more physically active and a gym seem like a feasible idea. I knew I needed to make it standout and I always enjoyed boxing/fighting. It was a no-brainer, a boxing gym/club. I committed to the gym during my last year in college(2018). Like most great gyms/clubs we started in the basement (thanks mom!). After a year or so we gained enough members to get a small location on sprinkle road in 2020. We stayed at that location for 5-year and moved into a bigger location down further sprinkle, closer to the Eastside of Kalamazoo.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The major issue I’ve dealt with is staffing. It’s hard to find assistant coaches. Most that can coach the sport of boxing wants to do their own thing or may start to overstep. Training someone specifically to be a coach is tough as well. Other than that, the gym has done very well!

We’ve been impressed with Kzoo Boxing, LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Kzoo Boxing is a Boxing club! We train and teach the sport of Boxing within our own little tight community. The goal regardless if you ever plan to fight is too learn it correctly and understand Boxing at least at the basic level. You should be able to watch the sport and truly know what’s going on outside of just people punching other people. We are known for our amateur Boxer accomplishments. We have a nice group of fighters and have had about 4 golden gloves Champions this year(2025). I believe the community and atmosphere is very inviting once you go through the proper channel.

Anyone interested in joining MUST and I can’t stress this enough; FOLLOW ORDERS! Text Coach Reece and you’ll know if Boxing is for you 2694145002

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love this city. Kalamazoo has a lot of promise and it is the reason I never moved. Most things here just make sense…besides the construction…and bike lanes….and roundabouts.
