Community Highlights: Meet Jason Heien of MindChip Industries

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Heien.

Hi Jason, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
While serving the US Navy, I quickly realized that realized my interest in Graphic Design and Web Development. Once a civilian, I started going to school for engineering, but still had the creative in me wanting to get out. I started out by creating family videos, posters for the local bands that I loved, and started creating website for those bands as well. As time went on, my portfolio grew.

I was laid off when the automotive section took a turn for the worse in 2009, but I had two different resumes, and engineering / professional resume, and my portfolio. I posted both online and applied to several different positions, telling myself that I would go with what path was chosen.

Luckily for me, my portfolio spoke for itself, and quickly turned my hobby into a career. I haven’t worked a day since! Back then, I was a Flash Developer, and when Steve Jobs stated that no Flash would be on Apple products, I had to quickly retool my skillset, and chose WordPress.

Since then, I decided I would rather make cool looking stuff DO cool stuff, than just make the cool looking stuff, and have been 100% WordPress website development focused.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There has been a few hiccups a long the way, but that is what makes the journey interesting! True learning happens when you make mistakes, and when you step out of your comfort zone of what you know, in order to gain new skills and insight.

It has taken a great investment of time to find the right tools for my toolbox so that I design, develop, and launch websites efficiently. Sometimes it takes a little trial and error, but most of the time, (in my case), when it feels right, you just know.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about MindChip Industries?
MindChip Industries is a Veteran Owned small business located in the Metro Detroit Area specializing in WordPress websites. The mission is simple. Help your business thrive.

Not only websites, but I can also develop your website to so there are workflows, similar to an application without having to go to your app store and download the app.

I offer website hosting, Custom WordPress website development, website maintenance, and Technical Search Engine Optimization.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
When your business does business with another entity, there is always a risk. I have mitigate most of my risks over time by putting an official proposal in place where the potential client has to sign in order to move forward with any type of work.

This proposal clearly states what MindChip Industries is responsible for, and what is the client’s responsibility.
While it is a legal binding document, I feel it is a must in my field in order to capture the scope of the project, and lay out who has to do what. It also keeps things on a very professional level.
