Today we’d like to introduce you to Halle Schnyders
Hi Halle, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve been baking since a little girl. I remember being part time homeschooled and on the days that I was home, my mom and I would always bake. We would mostly make cookies but we would also bake a lot of brownies and muffins as well. As I grew up, my passion grew for the baking industry. I would always ask for baking books and different recipes for Christmas and birthdays. My dream was to be like princess Tiana and open my own place some day. I ended up graduating from Cornerstone University with a business management degree and a minor in communications. I’m on track to graduate in 2025 with my certificate in Pastry from GRCC, and I’ve already started my business. Even though it’s mostly for friends and family, I’m getting so many different opportunities to bake for so many different people and different events.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has not been smooth by any means. School has always been hard for me and I didn’t think that I would graduate collage but here I am today, graduated and I’m even going to get a certificate in pastry. I also got diagnosed with Chiari Malformation and have to get surgery which challenged and is continuing to challenge me and is pushing me to do better.
I’m adopted and my parents have done an amazing job teaching me that you should never give up no matter how hard life gets. They would tell me that “God gives us challenges for a reason, it’s how you handle them that makes you different.”
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Halle’s Place?
As of right now, my business is called Halle’s place and it’s a bakery out of my house. I’m working on getting licensed and getting into farmers markets but with still being in school, I’m taking my time. My goal is to be able to sell breakfast baked goods but as of right now, I’ve been doing a lot of weddings, birthdays, and fun little events. So lots of cupcakes and cakes! I’m all about princess and the frog but I’m working on adding my own twist to it. I’m always up for a challenge and love creating fun, refreshing ideas like peach cobbler cinnamon rolls, sweet potato cupcakes with marshmallow frosting, fig and blue cheese turnovers or maple bacon pecan cinnamon rolls!
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Pastry Arts Magazine is an amazing resource that I love to use. You do have to subscribe but there are different techniques, recipes, trends, products, and podcasts that are all available to you.
Books that I absolutely love are Business Made Simple and How to Grow your Small Business both written by Donald Miller. He does a fantastic job breaking everything down step by step and makes this simple for new business owners!
