Today we’d like to introduce you to Greg Davis-Kean.
Hi Greg, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I previously worked in software development for a large company and I traveled enough for work to earn Delta Gold elite status each year. In 2011, though, the company issued a “no travel” decree in order to cut costs. So I turned to the internet to see if there was a way for me to keep my elite status despite traveling less. What I found was that I didn’t need elite status in order to earn upgrades. Instead, I could easily collect hundreds of thousands of points and miles and use them to fly first class and stay in luxury hotels. I signed up for a few credit cards, and my family used my new points a few months later to fly to London in business class where we stayed for free at the InterContinental London Park Lane.
I was so excited about what could be done with points and miles that I decided to start a blog which I called “Frequent Miler.” Blogging was meant to be just a hobby for me, but my audience grew quickly. Just 7 months later, I was let go due to a corporate reorganization and I decided to try blogging full time rather than looking for another job. Within a few months, I was earning enough from the blog to be certain that I had made the right decision. Now, 14 years later, I have four employees not counting myself, and we’ve expanded Frequent Miler beyond the blog. It is now also a successful podcast (Frequent Miler on the Air) and Facebook Group (Frequent Miler Insiders).
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s been a relatively smooth road!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Frequent Miler?
Frequent Miler is known for providing the best in-depth information about points and miles, and rewards credit cards. Unlike most others, we don’t publish sponsored content, and we only publish the credit card offers that are best for our audience rather than for ourselves. Most websites display card offers that are most valuable to them, not to their audience. Websites earn commissions when people click through their affiliate links and get approved for a credit card. Frequent Miler does too, but when there’s a better public offer than what is available through our affiliate links, we display that offer instead and we don’t earn a commission at all. That’s why we believe we have the single best source of credit card offers on the web.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
When faced with a conflict between what’s best for our audience and what’s best for our revenue, we’ve learned to always go with the former. Sure, we’ve passed up many short-term financial opportunities over the years, but our long-term growth has been terrific. Our audience is fiercely loyal and is quick to recommend us to family and friends.
