Community Highlights: Meet Elizabeth Canales of Queen Of Lashes By Liz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Canales.

Hi Elizabeth, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
How my journey went to get where I’m at today was always having a dream or thinking of the future. At age 25, I remember noticing how my daily routine was. At the time I worked at a factory having to go in a 5 am till 1:30 pm or 2:30 pm. Sometimes I will have two jobs to keep ends meet. Have 3 years I was tired of my daily routine, so I started looking into school. I applied for a tour at Douglas J Aveda Institute in downtown Grand Rapids Michigan. I walked in and I automatically felt this is where I need to be at. I filled it out paperwork and next thing you know a month later I was starting school.

I learned how to do haircuts, coloring, makeup, mani and pedicures, facials, and waxing. I loved it all and I met the best people there as well! After a while, I started hearing about eyelash extensions which caught my attention. I told myself to finish one task at a time. I graduated cosmetology school in August 2017, took my state boards and I was licensed!

In December 2017, I took a lash extension course Ciara’s Beauty Lounge. I was so excited for this journey and I was making it my goal to best one of the best in my city. I have cried, sweated, got frustrated and all the above during my journey. But made it a priority to never give up with my small business. After 2 years of working from home I moved into Charity Christine Salons.

I was able to grow my business individually in the salon where I can be so proud of where I’m at. I started offering courses to help others know how to properly apply eyelash extensions. They receive a kit, which carries all their essentials they will need to succeed in their journey.

I also attended events where I was able to connect with other small businesses, promote my own small business as well.

My clients are the ones the keep me going. The feedbacks I receive from them lets me know I am doing something amazing. My small business will never stop growing. My advice for any future small business is to just do it and don’t stop!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not! If it wasn’t about perfecting my work, it was About my decisions for my business itself. You have to play the role of the manager, the stylist, the friend, the therapist at times. All while trying to enjoy life at the same time. So, it can be a struggle at times.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Queen Of Lashes By Liz?
I specialize in eyelash extensions, waxing, lash instructor, and soon-to-be facials. I feel like I may be known by the natural sets I offer. My most popular sets are my wispy hybrid sets. It’s not a full or dense look but not to natural while adding some texture to the set.

What I’m most proud of in my brand as well as what I want my readers to know is how well my customer service is. I love at my clients as they are my friend. I love to spoil them by having them lay and a foam bed with a touch of a heat pad under you to relax those muscles. As well as you taking a nap or having a great conversation. I’m very attentive to my clients and make feel welcome at all times.

How do you define success?
