Community Highlights: Meet Elena Buenrostro of Women Who Drone

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elena Buenrostro

Hi Elena, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey into the world of drones began atop the Great Wall of China. A lifelong dream had been to hike this iconic landmark, and as a professional video producer, I was determined to document the experience in a unique and compelling way. That’s when I discovered the power of drone technology.

Intrigued by the possibility of capturing aerial perspectives, I purchased my first drone and embarked on my adventure. The experience was transformative. Suddenly, I had wings to elevate my storytelling and capture the world from breathtaking new angles. I was hooked.

Driven by this newfound passion, I obtained my Part 107 drone license that same year and continued to explore the creative possibilities of aerial filmmaking. Upon moving to NYC, I noticed a growing interest in drones among women, many of whom reached out to me for guidance. Recognizing the need for a supportive community and accessible resources, I founded Women Who Drone.

Today, Women Who Drone is a thriving online platform and community that inspires, educates, and empowers women and girls to explore the limitless potential of drone technology.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Paving the way for women in the fast-paced tech world isn’t always easy. Through the power of storytelling, we’ve inspired women and girls across the globe, and more recently, brought that inspiration directly to classrooms coast to coast.

Like many organizations, we faced challenges during the pandemic. Determined to keep our community connected, we pivoted to online learning and meetups. This shift unexpectedly allowed us to reach and engage with our global community in a more profound way, demonstrating the resilience and adaptability of Women Who Drone.

As you know, we’re big fans of Women Who Drone. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
