Today we’d like to introduce you to Deanna Girardot.
Hi Deanna, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I discovered interior design as a career path at 14 years old, and from that moment I was hooked. In high school, I immersed myself in art, drafting, and architecture, and went on to graduate with honors in 1998 from Sullivan College of Design and Technology.
In 2006, a phone call changed the trajectory of my career. A young woman shared that her childhood home no longer felt like the warm, inviting sanctuary of her memories. Instead, it had become a sad, sickly environment. Her mother, still living in the home, was struggling with chronic respiratory issues and bouts of depression. As we tried to untangle what came first — the decline of the home or the decline of her mother’s health — I realized that restoring, revitalizing, and beautifying the space could only have a positive impact on her well-being. That experience sparked my deep love and appreciation for what our homes can do for us, beyond just being beautiful.
In 2024, I discovered Science in Design, a curriculum that focuses on Neuroaesthetics — the study of how our subconscious responds to our environment. I was immediately drawn in and pursued the certification. Neuroaesthetics examines how elements like light, color, scent, sound, and texture shape our experience, often before we even have time to think about how we feel. Our philosophy at Tranquil Interiors has always been to curate authentic spaces that offer sanctuary and foster connection. Now, we’re fortified by science — bringing deeper intention and measurable well-being to every project.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Owning your own business always comes with challenges. In 2023, we decided to pursue a life goal and relocated our family and business to Grand Haven on Michigan’s beautiful West Coast. Starting from scratch in a new community hasn’t been easy — it meant rebuilding our network and visibility from the ground up. But that challenge has been a blessing. It encouraged me to get out, meet new people, and engage in face-to-face marketing. Through that process, I’ve formed incredible connections and friendships, and I truly feel the deep sense of “this is where we belong.”
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Tranquil Interiors LLC?
At Tranquil Interiors, we take the time to truly get to know our clients — far beyond Pinterest boards and favorite colors. We want to understand how you live: What’s your morning routine? Where are the daily stress points? How does your family bond — over meals, games, time outdoors?
Every floor plan and room layout is thoughtfully designed to support the flow of daily life and foster deeper connections. We ask about what brings you joy, how you like to unwind, your favorite vacation style, and how you prefer to experience nature — because there’s a psychological cost to living in spaces where you don’t feel you belong.
Our Science in Design certification and use of Biophilic Design principles allow us to create spaces that enhance health, well-being, and authentic living. With over 30 years of experience, we provide full-service support for projects ranging from new construction and remodeling to furnishings and finishes.
We work with residential and commercial clients — often busy professionals and those who value quality and sustainable choices. Our clients love our full-service flat rate approach for its clarity and confidence.
For those curious about the process, we offer consultations to help you see your space through a professional lens. We also provide Sanctuary Assessments — a concept-only service where we deliver a curated design vision for you to implement at your own pace.
Our website portfolio showcases new construction projects I’ve designed from the ground up, as well as commercial work, including dental offices, coffee shops, and more.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Risk taking happens every time you step outside your comfort zone. This is where potential is grown, dreams are met or better yet, exceeded, and life elevates. Relocating a business to a new state, that was a risk. The growth and elevation it’s brought to our lives, a true dream manifested.
