Community Highlights: Meet David Gagnon of Cellar 104/World Varietal Winery

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Gagnon.

Hi David, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started making wine in my home basement around 2006. I wanted to create a natural wine, without chemicals or additives. I researched how this type of wine was produced in Europe and fine winerys.

I trialed 10-15 diferent Varietals, different yeast, oak and no oak, as well as aging time for 6 to 36 months. Producing 200-300 gallons, my friends and family were the sampling judges.

In 2019 I decided to file for a Small Wine Maker license and opened Cellar 104 in Historic Downtown Mount Cemens, Michigan.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Largest struggle was sharing our natural , no chemical wines to the general public compared to the wines they typically purchase at local stores.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Cellar 104/World Varietal Winery?
My name is David Gagnon, Vintner and Managing Member of World Varietal Winery and Cellar 104. My wine passion for wine making began in 2005. In 2019, we decided to open World Varietal Winery, LLC to produce the best wine possible…Natural way.

We are pleased to share over 30 different wines we produce here in Mount Clemens with juice from different areas around the world.

We source our wine juice for around the world, currently Italy, Chile and California. All wines are produced here, in Mount Clemens, Mi., then aged minimum of 18 months for our Signature Collection and 36 months for our Reserves Collections. These are all done under natural processing and fermentation for your enjoyment. All without chemical additives and sulfites.

In fact, unlike the majority of wines on store shelves, our wines are not only unique, but Vegan.
Our wines taste remarkably different than other wines, smooth and easy to enjoy.

The character of our wines is inherent, not enhanced like so many on the market.
That is because we make them in a similar old-world manner, naturally. Another noticeable difference is they are not oaked but aged in special Impervious tanks. This allows the controlled fermentation and aging that reveals the natural tannins of the grape.

Once you experience the tastings of our many varietals, we are confident you will enjoy them, and many will become your favorites.

Whether you enjoy red or white wine, we believe you will be pleasantly surprised as to the pure character of our wines we serve at Cellar 104.

We specialize in wine tastings, funraising and parties.

How do you define success?
Hard work producing quality products at an the exceptional value. Always treat people the way you prefer to be treated.

Pricing:

  • Signature wines – 18 months aged $29-35
