Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Brito.
Hi Daniel, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have always had interest for electronic music even when I was little. At first, it started with more commercial songs produced by names that you’re probably familiar with like Avicii or Tiësto. Eventually, I started discovering more music and more sub genres of EDM. I became really obsessed with the music and about two years ago, I bought my first pair of decks. I had realized for a while that in order to experience anything that was related to house music, I had to go to either Chicago or Detroit. Don’t get me wrong, Grand Rapids and the Midwest have a lot of dubstep, but I was looking for something in the realm of house music and UKG. I decided to get a pair of decks to start learning the craft to see if I could build something in Grand Rapids. Throughout my journey, I discovered that there was already something being built in Grand Rapids but was very unknown to many. Throughout my journey, I have been able to play many sets, compiled of house music, and UKG. My vision is to continue to build the house music and UKG scene by continuing to create sets and music experiences that are unforgettable. I also want to bridge the gap between electronic music and Latin music. I am from the Dominican Republic and Latin Afro roots run deep in my blood. So naturally, I have always had a desire to mix electronic music and Latino music. This is something Grand Rapids and the world need more of.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t always been smooth. Just like many other artists, you struggle with many obstacles on the way. The very first one was feeling like initially. I sounded like so many different artists out there. It took a while to find my sound and to commit to sticking to it. I also struggled with imposter syndrome and feeling like I didn’t belong. I quickly realize that what makes artists unique is their point of view and perspective on the music and journey they’re providing. This continues to inspire me to put my touch on the music experiences that I provide. Another struggle that I know some musicians and artists also struggle with is choosing which events to play and which ones not to. I’ve had a lot of events that have been successful and have drawn a good following and crowd, but I have also experienced events where I played where very little people show up and it also gets no exposure. This isn’t about chasing clout or local fame, it is about creating something that is unique and will attract a crowd who is interested in discovering what you can bring. Well, last challenge that is worth mentioning, as many DJs know, is the transition from bedroom DJ to performing DJ. When you begin, you enter into a mode when you are playing a lot to yourself as a way of practice or are performing in small gatherings or parties. This is great for artist development and learning what you can do on the decks but once you transition to professional decks, it’s a whole different game. I am someone who likes to prepare and practices a lot but initially, I did make quite a few mistakes on live performances. I will say this made me the artist I am today and every one of those mistakes was taken as fuel to improve my craft and mixing
As you know, we’re big fans of Loop Casa Entertainment. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
What sets me a part is that I combine house music, UKG and Latin music to create a unique musical performance that aims to create music and mixes that are unheard of yet.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Grand Rapids is a growing city, and the electronic music scene is also rapidly growing all over the world. I have encountered many new artists in the scene that are also creating new experiences. I predict that we will be seeing a lot of new artists and music that will be emerging from Grand Rapids.
