Today we’d like to introduce you to Dalal Baydoun.
Hi Dalal, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Baydoun Urgent Care was born from a moment of clarity on my 21st birthday in 2022 — a moment that completely changed the direction of my life. At the time, I was pursuing a dental career, and although I had invested years into it, I knew deep down it wasn’t for me. I craved movement, growth, change, and the chance to see and experience something new every day. A traditional 9–5 routine felt suffocating. I wanted more.
One day that June, after another long shift, I came home and told my dad, “I bought a building in West Dearborn — we’re signing the papers in July.” He looked at me like I had lost my mind. I had no experience in the medical world outside of dental, no business background, and no plan. All I had was a gut feeling and a vision.
When he asked me what I wanted to do with the building, all I could say was, “I don’t know… maybe an Urgent Care. Something medical. I’m done with dental.” My dad was shocked, especially after everything I had put into school, but eventually he and my mom trusted me — and their faith in me became the foundation of everything that followed.
Once July came, and the building was officially mine, reality hit. I was a 21-year-old with a whole clinic to build and absolutely no roadmap. But I believed in my vision: an urgent care that didn’t feel clinical, cold, or stressful. I wanted something warm, modern, and welcoming — a space that felt more like a med spa than a typical urgent care. From gold faucets to granite countertops, every detail of Baydoun Urgent Care was designed to make people feel calm, safe, and at home. To this day, almost everyone who walks in asks if they’ve stepped into a spa.
The aesthetic came together beautifully, but the hardest part was everything behind the scenes — staffing, contracting, licensing. I had never done any of it. I felt lost, but I wasn’t afraid to ask questions. I learned from everyone around me because I’ve always believed success comes from being open to learning. No one is born knowing everything; you choose the knowledge you want to obtain.
Then came one of my biggest setbacks. After interviewing multiple providers, I finally hired someone — who worked one day, quit, and tried to take advantage of the fact that I was a young woman. I was devastated. I closed the clinic for months, convinced I had failed before I even got started. I cried for days, thinking I had let myself and my parents down.
But eventually, I reminded myself: “You didn’t come this far to stop now.”
I got up, asked everyone I knew for help, and kept searching until I finally found someone who believed in my vision. He became — and still is — my medical director, and one of the biggest blessings in this journey.
When we reopened, I was terrified. The first week, only family came in. Again, I felt that fear of failure creeping in. But I refused to give up. I started creating informational videos and content for social media — something completely out of my comfort zone. In person, I’m quiet and introverted, so speaking in front of a camera was a huge leap. But I knew it was necessary if I wanted people to discover BUC.
And it worked.
People began walking through the doors specifically because of those videos. Seeing that impact motivated me to grow even more — and that’s when I launched our weight-loss program. Between semaglutide and tirzepatide options, weekly injections, and insurance-based or self-pay plans starting at $55/week, the program exploded. Today, we have hundreds of patients enrolled and seeing incredible results.
As BUC West continued to grow, my confidence grew with it — enough for me to take the next big step: purchasing land in East Dearborn to build my second location. At 24 years old, I’m now preparing to open BUC East, expanding the vision that started with a random idea on my 21st birthday.
Looking back, quitting dental and following my gut was the best decision I ever made. Baydoun Urgent Care exists because I trusted myself — but I would not be here without my parents, who believed in me even when my ideas sounded impossible. Their trust, support, and love carried me through the hardest moments.
BUC started with no plan, no experience, and a whole lot of faith.
Today, it stands as proof that you don’t need to have everything figured out — you just need the courage to start.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
BUC was built on nothing but faith, pressure, and pure determination. I walked into the medical world with zero experience, no plan, and everyone questioning whether I knew what I was doing. The first provider I hired quit after one day and tried to take advantage of me — forcing me to close my doors for months at just 21 years old. I cried, convinced I had failed and embarrassed that I might prove my parents right for doubting my sudden career change.
When I finally reopened, nobody came except family. I battled the fear of disappointing my parents, the fear of failure, and the reality of running a clinic completely alone. As someone naturally quiet, forcing myself in front of a camera to market BUC felt like another mountain to climb.
Every step was a challenge — staffing, licensing, empty days, financial pressure, and the constant voice in my head telling me I wasn’t ready. But I pushed through all of it. Those challenges didn’t break me — they built the clinic I have today.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Baydoun Urgent Care is redefining what community healthcare looks like through modern systems, strong patient outcomes, and strategic expansion. Our weight-loss division alone serves hundreds of active patients and continues to expand based on measurable results and strong referral growth.
I am most proud of how quickly BUC has grown as a brand—opening my first location at 21 and now developing a second location in East Dearborn. Our mission is to offer accessible, high-quality healthcare supported by strong infrastructure, innovation, and long-term sustainability. Baydoun Urgent Care is not just a clinic; it is a growing healthcare brand focused on impact, reliability, and community trust.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What makes me happiest is knowing that I never gave up on myself. I dreamed of something that felt impossible, and I did it. I walked away from a secure path in dental — something most people are too scared to do — and chose to chase a vision that only I could see. Stepping away from a firm, stable job to open my own clinic at 21 wasn’t an easy decision, but it’s the one that changed my entire life.
I pushed through fear, doubt, setbacks, and moments where quitting would’ve been easier. Instead, I built something real. Something meaningful. And that’s where my happiness comes from — the fact that I believed in the unimaginable and turned it into Baydoun Urgent Care.
Every time I walk into my clinic, every time a patient thanks me, every time I see the growth of the business I created from nothing, I’m reminded that taking that risk was the best decision I ever made. The thing that once scared me now brings me the greatest joy: knowing I bet on myself, and I won.
