Community Highlights: Meet Chase Wilkerson of Momentum Consulting Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chase Wilkerson. 

Hi Chase, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Thank you so much for taking the time to highlight my business. I am a Lansing native, born and raised. I attended high school at East Lansing Highschool, then went onto college at Siena Heights University in Adrian, MI on a track scholarship. I am the founder and Chief Strategist for Momentum Consulting Group, driven with a passion to help churches, businesses and nonprofits.

Momentum Consulting Group is a branding and strategy firm founded in 2020 in the greater Seattle area. Our goal is to energize & build momentum in churches, businesses, and non-profit organizations through strategic planning, brand development, and innovative marketing! 

Becoming a consultant had been a goal of mine since attending college in the early 2000s. Interestingly, I wasn’t familiar with the term consultant, I just had a desire to help organizations that were stuck restructure and revitalize their organization so that organization could become what they always dreamed it would be. This desire first started with my desire to help churches. As a child, I grew up in the church and I saw the impact that it had on many communities, but I also saw many the financial challenges churches carried to stay afloat and to grow. Seeing these challenges sparked my desire to want to develop my skills so that I could use those skills to help churches. This is where my desire to help organizations started, but over the years it has developed. After several years working in sales, marketing, gaining more education and experience in different industries, I still saw the need, but not only in churches, but with non-profits, small businesses, and corporations. 

I had the desire to start the business, I even had picked out the name, but I felt I needed a little more knowledge to solidify my expertise, so I enrolled in the Management, Strategy and Leadership, online master’s program at Michigan State University’s Eli Broad School of Business. After two years of hard work, I was able to develop a strategy and business plan as my final project and complete my degree at MSU. This step gave me the confidence, knowledge, and expertise along with my experience to launch my business. 

After doing a cross-country move from Chicago, IL to Seattle, WA, in 2020, right at the beginning of the pandemic, I launched Momentum Consulting Group. It’s been an amazing two seeing the results that my clients receive after a strategy session with me or after I’ve completed a branding strategy for them. From churches to small business, we develop strategies to help organizations succeed the way they always dreamed it would! 

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Every opportunity comes with its own set of challenges, it’s not about the challenge itself but how you chose to respond to it. Each client that I work with is unique. I’ve had to learn how to effectively diagnose what each client needs, in order to offer them the best service and strategy for their business. One of the biggest challenges has been to decide who my customer will be. Many times, people will come and request help, in some areas I can help, but in other areas, I cannot. I’ve come to discover that not all business is a perfect fit for me.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
The most important thing I’ve learned through this COVID-19 crisis is the importance of being online and understanding how the digital landscape works.
