Community Highlights: Meet Chad Curtis of Pro Edge Fitness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chad Curtis.

Hi Chad, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I’m a childhood cancer survivor, I had lymphoma at age 5. I fell in love with Fitness and bodybuilding as a teenager at 15 years old. Almost immediately, my dream was to be a face of fitness in my city, to leave lasting generational impact. I am blessed to have been able to see that dream become reality bigger than I ever thought possible. I chose to major in college in exercise science and follow my dream. I was able to get a dream job from there as the fitness Director of a major fitness club in the city once graduated. For seven years, I lead a team of incredibly talented trainers, building our personal training program to a large scale, seeing so many lives changed for the better! for me, I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit, my goal was always to be independent, and I saw fitness competitions as a way to build a personal brand in the city, and achieve the credibility that many look for when choosing a personal trainer. I dove headfirst into competitions; being an incredibly competitive person, that lifestyle was a perfect fit for me. For six years, I poured my heart and soul into everyday preparation for the next competition. At the end of the day, I was able to win my class at the NPC Grand Rapids bodybuilding show twice and also win the Michigan state natural in 2017 to achieve the ultimate goal of that pro card. This was the final piece that I needed to branch out and become the entrepreneur I knew I was always destined to be. I began the journey in early 2018, branching out and taking on clients, both in person and online and virtual; I’ve been blessed to help guide so many people over the last five years to overcome such incredible obstacles and achieve so many amazing goals. Each person has a unique story, a unique energy, and a special journey to their mountaintop. I’ve been fortunate to be along for the ride with so many as they climb their mountain. Looking back, I am lucky to be able to be living the dream I had as a teenager. I feel what has made me successful in my career is that above everything else I truly love fitness; I love bodybuilding, it was something that when I was a teenager, I latched onto, and it became a part of me in a deep and meaningful way. I enjoy my workouts now just as much as I ever have. I feel when people see that genuine passion that you carry, it not only inspires but it generates energy that they can use to achieve their goals. I love being a part of that process. I hope to be a part of so many more incredible stories for years to come!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
There have certainly been struggles; when I got my first job as a fitness Director of the club in the city, I had to learn how to sell with little to no training or guidance. I had to learn how to effectively and efficiently communicate my passion and process for fitness in a way that would be engaging and give people energy to make a decision to better their life right now. It’s crazy what you can learn and become successful at when you are under pressure to succeed! Also, pushing through so many dark and lonely early mornings of cardio, so many hard workouts for competitions, pushing yourself to the absolute limit when no one is watching, and no one would know if you didn’t give it your all but doing so anyway. That self-discipline takes a lot of emotional energy and sacrifice. The fitness business in general is a grind. I love what I do, but in this business, there are no days off, no vacation; the fitness business is much like Fitness itself; you have to grind it out week after week month after month year after year. I’m lucky that I enjoy it so much!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I take pride in the quality of relationship built with every client, the attention to detail, and the genuine passion I have for seeing every person I work with succeed. Over the years, I have worked with every type of fitness goal and limitation, any number of sessions per week for the individual, online and virtual training, nutrition, tailoring each program to the individual to make sure that they can hit their goals in the most effective way.
