Community Highlights: Meet Cecilia Kane of Modern Bounce Company

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cecilia Kane. 

Hi Cecilia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
When we dove into small business ownership, we started out by renting our red 1950 Chevy Pickup to photographers for photo shoots in 2021. It was a hit for holiday cards. We had a ton of fun with it, and we met all kinds of great people along the way. We wanted to expand and offer additional rental services, but we weren’t really sure what else to offer at first. Vehicles at the time seemed like a logistical nightmare, but we wanted to do more. I had been seeing these modern white bounce houses all over Instagram for a couple of years, and I loved the idea. After getting our feet wet with the Little Red Truck, I had the confidence to go after it. I did some research and quickly realized we didn’t have them in West Michigan. We decided to take the leap and buy a few, and now bounce houses have become our primary focus! 

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
This whole journey has been a learning curve, and we have had our fair share of hiccups getting this business off the ground. The first realization we came to was that bounce houses are massive. We knew they would take up space, but I think I underestimated just how big they were when they were rolled up. Not to mention all of the additional equipment that is required for a safe setup. We decided to get a storage unit close to us so that we could get our garage back. We also ran into an issue when we waited 3 long months for a slide bouncer that people have been begging for, and when it arrived from our supplier, it wasn’t the right bounce house. So now we have to wait even longer for this bounce house that we have been wanting to offer to our clients. 

As you know, we’re big fans of Modern Bounce Company. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We are not an average bounce house rental company. Rather than bright, primary colors, we offer luxury bounce house rentals with a neutral, modern aesthetic. This is really exciting for a lot of our clients who want to offer the fun of a bounce house at their event, but don’t want the primary colors to interfere with their vision, whether it is for a birthday party or a wedding. We currently have one white and one black bounce house available for rent, and we have a slide unit coming later this year. We are also planning on minis this fall for indoor parties. 

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
My happiest days are when I get to have care-free days with my husband and kids. No plans, no pressures, no obligations. Just being present in the moment and seeing where the day takes us. Professionally, I thrive when I am able to make time to be creative. The marketing aspect of this business has been a blast and getting to collaborate with so many other talented small business owners for events and styled shoots has been so rewarding.
