Today we’d like to introduce you to Cassie Schultz.
Hi Cassie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Since my oldest child was born in 2010, I’ve been exploring options for part time work that gives me flexibility while I’m raising my kids. I love being my own boss and have started a few service based businesses.
I began walking dogs to supplement my income while running another business in a different industry. in 2021 I left that business due to burn out and made dog walking my main gig. I picked up some training skills along the way – in particular training leash manners. One of the biggest headaches for dog owners is their dogs constantly pulling on the leash during walks.
That’s always been the only thing I’ve disliked about training with my own dogs because it takes so much time and patience. I realized that other owners must be experiencing the same frustrations and created a program to help. I got great feedback from my clients as well as questions about other behavior challenges so I decided to branch out and offer help with a variety of training issues.
I currently offer dog walking and training and am working toward certification through Certification Council For Professional Dog Trainers.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My biggest challenge as an entrepreneur has been finding a service that I am passionate about that also has enough market demand to make it sustainable. I’ve worked and struggled in other industries with lower demand. The pet care industry has been a breath of fresh air! There are so many families looking for a variety of services for their fur babies. Now I have the opportunity to explore different areas within pet care and figure out which services are the best fit for me.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Through Pet Care Partners, LLC I offer dog walking and training.
I walk each client’s dog individually in their own neighborhood. (or a together with their doggie sibling) Since walking is not the only way to give a dog experience and mental stimulation I also do a lot playtime – which is often the most fun! I offer many add on services to walking clients including teeth brushing, baths and backyard clean up. I love being able to provide a number of ways to partner with my clients in their dog’s care!
With my training services I offer private sessions in the client’s home and address a variety of basic behavior challenges. I specialize in walk training. It’s so common for dogs to pull on the leash or bark and lunge when they see other dogs on the sidewalk. Both of these behaviors can be frustrating for the human at the other end of the leash! Because walking skills can take a lot of time and patience to train, I offer packages where we do some sessions together and I do some on my own – taking some of the frustration out of the process for my client!
I am excited to offer on-line training and courses in the near future!
How do you think about happiness?
I have so many passions! At this busy stage of life though, I often feel pretty tired and overwhelmed so when I have free time I like to do things that are low key and relaxing.
My husband, Josh and our kids, Fiona and Dawson and I love to play board games. I particularly love “party style” games.
When I need an energy boost, I rely on my favorite hobby – K Pop! I find listening to songs and watching videos from my favorite groups so energizing and joyful! I love making Spotify or Youtube playlists and hosting watch parties.
Other interests that I hope to have more time for one day include musical theater, writing and horses. In the meantime, I find little ways to sneak extra fun into the day like listening to podcasts while walking or folding laundry!
