Today we’d like to introduce you to Carly Jones.
Hi Carly, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I began in real estate when I decided to go back to work when my kids were 4 and 5 years old. I was a litigation attorney and decided to stop working when I had my first daughter. It was difficult getting pregnant and when I did get pregnant after fertility, I didn’t want to be working all the time and not be with my daughter. I then ended up having my other daughter 18 months later and loved getting to be there for the first few years of their lives. Plus, it was a blur with two so close in age. When I was deciding I wanted to go to work, I didn’t want to go back into a law firm, but wanted something different. I had done some real estate while a lawyer and after selling and buying our own house, I was interested in the process. I started working full-time as a real estate agent and when I switched to Engel & Völkers in 2019 from my previous brokerage, I mentioned I would love to work in Michigan where we have a house in Union Pier. That ended up being the start of a new adventure, where I helped open up our Michigan shop in Douglas and became the managing broker in addition to being an owner. I love it because I love to train the advisors and help them grow their busy and I love that I can mix my knowledge of the law with my knowledge of real estate.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There is always the struggle of balancing work and family life. I love real estate because it gives me flexibility to make my own schedule to volunteer at school, go to soccer tournaments and ice-skating competitions. However, as any real estate agent knows, we are available 24/7 and need to respond when we are working with our clients. I do love that with every transaction I create a new relationship and get to meet new people. No transaction is the same, which keeps everything exciting!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Engel & Völkers Shoreline?
We have three shops throughout the Midwest in Chicago, the North Shore of Chicago in Winnetka, Illinois, and in Michigan in Douglas. Our three shops are all owned by the same people and it creates a great synergy and connection. We provide a high standard of service to all of our clients with a clean, sophisticated look in our marketing. It is all about creating relationships and making the service personal to our clients. Not just seeing a transaction through.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up.
I grew up in Highland Park, Illinois near Ravinia Festival. I would walk over with my parents and we would have dinner sitting on a blanket, listening to music. I loved laying on the blanket and reading a book and starring up at the stars. I bring my girls there today.
