Hi Britney, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My name is Britney Sylvester, and I am a proud mother of six beautiful children. I was born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where I still live today. My journey into baking began in 2018, quite unexpectedly. Over Labor Day weekend, my children and I were heading to Great Wolf Lodge for a family trip. I decided to bake some cookies for the road, and to my surprise, they were an instant hit with my kids—they couldn’t stop raving about them.
That moment planted a seed. By Christmas of that same year, I decided to take a chance and share my baking with others. I created a simple sign-up sheet for holiday cookie boxes, asking people to prepay. To my amazement, I sold more than 50 boxes at $10 each, and that experience showed me that what started as a family treat could grow into something bigger.
In 2019, I took a business class with SpringGR, which was a turning point for me. They taught me how to properly price my products and helped me define my target audience. That guidance gave me the confidence to truly launch my business, Uniquely Made Creation, and since then, I’ve been dedicated to creating baked goods that bring joy to families, just like they did for mine.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No one ever told me that this road would be easy.I have wanted to give up plenty of times but with God on my side I can do anything. Running a business requires sacrifice, discipline, and perseverance. There have been many long nights with little sleep, and I’ve had to make tough choices to balance my responsibilities as a mother and an entrepreneur. One of the greatest challenges has been learning to manage my time and energy while still showing up fully for my family and my business.
Despite these obstacles, I’ve come to realize that the sacrifices are part of the journey. Each challenge has taught me resilience, focus, and the importance of staying disciplined even when things get difficult. Building a business from the ground up has not only strengthened my work ethic but has also made every accomplishment that much more rewarding.
We’ve been impressed with Uniquely Made Kreations, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Even though the hard work behind the scenes often goes unnoticed, I truly love what I do. Baking and creating new treats brings me joy, and I especially enjoy attending pop-up shops and farmers markets. These events give me the opportunity to connect with people directly, share my creations, and introduce new customers to the unique flavors and care that go into every product. For me, it’s not just about selling—it’s about building connections and giving people a taste of something special.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
One of the things I love most about my business is seeing the joy on my customers’ faces when they try my products. Hearing their positive feedback and knowing that my baked goods have created a memorable experience for them is incredibly rewarding. I especially value my loyal, repeat customers—their continued support reminds me that I’m not just selling desserts, but building relationships and trust through my work.
On the other hand, one of the more challenging aspects of running a baking business is the demand it places on my time and energy, especially during busy seasons. While it can be exhausting, those moments also push me to grow, stay organized, and remain committed to delivering the quality my customers expect.
