Today we’d like to introduce you to Bridget.
Hi Bridget, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Dr. Bridget A. Leonard, DNP, MSN, MBA-HCM, RN, CRRN, NEA-BC, CNE®pv is an award-winning nursing executive, educator, author, speaker, and resilience expert whose life and leadership embody the power of perseverance, purpose, and reinvention. Known to many as “Dr. B,” she is a transformational leader with more than 30 years of nursing experience and a story that inspires audiences far beyond healthcare.
Her journey is one of grit and grace. Dr. Leonard became a mother at just 15 years old, a reality that shifted the trajectory of her life and forced her to grow up quickly. Once a high school dropout and teen mom, she refused to allow her circumstances to define her future. Instead, she rewrote her story—rising from adversity to earn multiple degrees, including a Doctor of Nursing Practice, and building an extraordinary career from CNA to Chief Nursing Officer. Today, she is a nationally respected nursing leader, educator, and advocate who uses her lived experience to empower others to overcome limitations and lead with intention.
A proud mother of seven, Dr. Leonard’s strength is rooted not only in her professional accomplishments, but in her personal resilience. She is a lupus warrior who has navigated the physical and emotional realities of living with chronic illness while continuing to lead, teach, and serve with excellence. Her advocacy is deeply personal: her daughter also battles lupus and is currently awaiting a life-saving heart and kidney transplant. This journey has intensified Dr. Leonard’s commitment to health advocacy, organ donation awareness, and the power of faith, endurance, and hope.
Professionally, Dr. Leonard is a board-certified nurse executive, Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse, and Certified Academic Practical/Vocational Nurse Educator whose career spans bedside care, executive leadership, academia, hospice, and professional governance. A former Chief Nursing Officer, she helped lead a rehabilitation hospital to two Magnet designations and now pours her passion into educating future nurses and empowering women to live boldly and lead unapologetically.
Dr. Leonard is the author of Be Powerful On Purpose and the visionary behind the movement of the same name—a platform rooted in intentional living, resilience, confidence, and impact. Through her voice, her story, and her service, she reminds the world that your beginning does not determine your destiny.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Long before the degrees, accolades, and leadership titles, Dr. Leonard’s life was shaped by hardship, instability, and survival. Raised in an environment marked by trauma, she learned early what it meant to endure. She grew up navigating the emotional chaos of an alcoholic mother, the devastating loss of her father to suicide, and the silent wounds of sexual and mental abuse. Her childhood was not rooted in safety or stability, but in survival—learning how to push through pain, navigate dysfunction, and find strength in places where there should have been shelter.
By 15, she was a teen mother trying to raise a child while still needing to be mothered herself. She dropped out of high school, faced the weight of judgment, and battled the limitations society placed on young Black women, teen mothers, and women born into struggle. Her road was not paved with privilege or protection. It was marked by pain, detours, loss, self-doubt, and seasons where survival—not success—was the goal.
Yet Dr. Leonard refused to let trauma write the ending of her story.
What could have broken her became the foundation of her resilience. She returned to school, rebuilt her life, and defied every statistic designed to count her out. She rose from high school dropout to earning a Doctor of Nursing Practice, from teen mother to accomplished executive, from surviving trauma to helping others heal through leadership, advocacy, and purpose.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

How do you define success?
I define success as alignment—being able to live, lead, and serve in a way that is fully aligned with who I am, what I value, and the purpose I was created for. Success is not just about titles, degrees, money, or recognition—though I’ve earned those too. Success is waking up in peace, walking in purpose, and knowing that my life is making an impact.
For me, success is not measured solely by what I’ve accomplished, but by what I’ve overcome. It is the ability to turn pain into purpose, setbacks into strategy, and survival into service. It is being able to look at my life—from teen mom and high school dropout to doctor, executive, educator, and entrepreneur—and know that I did not let my circumstances define me.
Success is also legacy. It is what I build, what I pour into others, and what remains long after I’ve left the room. It is raising my children, especially my daughters, to see strength, resilience, and possibility modeled in real time. It is showing women that they do not have to shrink, settle, or apologize for taking up space. It is helping nurses find their voice, leaders find their confidence, and people find the courage to choose themselves.
Most of all, success is freedom—the freedom to live intentionally, to define life on my own terms, and to be powerful on purpose in every room I enter.
