Today we’d like to introduce you to Briahna Knowles.
Briahna, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Movement has always been a part of my life since the age of 3. I was trained in ballet and modern dance and spent GE 5-14 as a cheerleader in the Detroit Police Athletic League. In 2015, I lost both my paternal grandparents to health conditions that were onset by poor eating and health habits. That is when I decided to become more mindful of how I was treating my body. In 2016 Id lost 35 pounds just eating healthy. No gym or trainer, just healthy and balanced eating.
I was introduced to yoga just after I’d given birth to my eldest son by cesarean section. I was looking for a workout that would be less intense but get me introduced back into movement of my body. After 3 years of consistent practice, I was given a free scholarship to become a 200 HR registered teacher.
In 2020 I started hosting yoga classes outdoors during the height of the pandemic. My yoga classes had become very popular. In 2021, I began fitness coaching. These were all things my social media audience saw me doing before I started The Hype. Once I began training the overflow of clients came and I was forced into full-time entrepreneurship.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There are always challenges starting a new company. Especially a wellness company in the height of the pandemic. Our biggest challenge has been funding to hire and train yoga teachers and investing capital into marketing and promotion.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Hype Wellness Group?
The Hype Wellness Group is an all-inclusive wellness company that provides a wholistic approach to creating a lifestyle change within our community. We offer personal training, yoga classes, and also youth mindfulness classes. Our mindfulness program is an outreach to youth in the Detroit area. our assignment has been to help students transition back into in personal learning. Through SEL (social, emotional learning) we are teaching the younger generation how to recognize the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
What were you like growing up?
As long as I can remember, I have been the maternal friend of the group. lol I love influencing my friends and peers to try new things. To explore their feelings and giving the best advice, or so I thought.
I’ve always loved food and helping my grandmother and aunts with holiday meals. So much so that I went to culinary arts school in my freshman and sophomore years of college.
Music feeds my soul. In almost any genre. Music has pulled me through some of the darkest times in my life.
