Community Highlights: Meet Brandon Boyd of Brandon Boyd Photo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Boyd.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have always shown an interest in photography. When I was younger, I always wanted a camera to capture photos of nature, vacations, friends/family, etc. In 2013, I met a friend during college who did photography as a part-time job. Eventually, her business started booming and she went full-time. I stepped in when I could and helped her out with weddings, senior photos, and lifestyle sessions as an assistant and a second shooter. I fell in love with the job. I then graduated from college in 2018 and began my teaching career. I put photography to the side for a while to focus on my new job. Occasionally, I would help take senior pictures for my cousins, but that was about it. After a couple of years into my teaching career, I was feeling a push to start taking pictures again and see if I could do it all on my own. In 2020, I bought a new camera and photographed an intimate backyard wedding for a close friend of mine. After that moment, I knew what I had to do. Not even a month later, I set up a simple website and started advertising my little business. In less than two years, I have photographed over 100 families and couples! I am beyond thankful and blessed to be able to do what I love!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve had some amazing mentors to get me to where I am today. Autumn from Athornsphoto, LLC, and Nick from Najduk Photography, LLC taught me so much over the years. They not only taught me the ins and outs of photography but the business side of everything as well. They provided me with constant advice and so many resources that helped me avoid multiple challenges and obstacles I would’ve faced. Their support made my job possible today, and I’m beyond thankful for them.

Since I opened my business, I’ve had to work very hard to balance photo sessions and my teaching career. I had to learn that you can’t spread yourself too thin and that balancing everything can be tricky at times. However, seeing what I have been able to accomplish in the last two years, I know that I am exactly where I need to be and I will continue doing what I do.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Wedding and Family Photographer. I am known for photographing weddings, family photos, engagements, maternity sessions, and senior pictures. It’s my goal to capture the candid moments in a person’s life. I want my client’s time with me to simply just be fun, relaxing, and full of laughter. I want my clients to be able to look back at their pictures and be able to cherish them for a lifetime. I believe that everyone should have a chance to have these moments captured for them!
