Community Highlights: Meet Allison And Ben Kellogg of Appliance Solutions LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Allison And Ben Kellogg.

Hi Allison and Ben, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
We’re Ben and Allison Kellogg, the owners of Appliance Solutions in Brighton, Michigan. More importantly, we’re a husband-and-wife team raising three kids, juggling busy schedules, and living the same everyday life as many of our customers.
We are high school sweethearts. Ever since the beginning of our relationship, Ben dreamed of someday owning his own business. Ben found himself in the appliance industry and discovered his passion for helping customers find the appliances that best fit their unique situation. He found great joy in simplifying what can often be an overwhelming process for homeowners.
Allison’s background is a little different. Allison worked as a credentialed actuary before stepping away from corporate life to focus on raising our family.
Over time, we realized there was an opportunity to build something different together: an appliance store centered around honest advice, real relationships, and truly personal service.
We opened Appliance Solutions because we believe buying appliances should feel less overwhelming and more supportive.
Too often, people walk into big box stores and leave with unanswered questions, confusing information, or appliances that aren’t actually the best fit for their home or lifestyle. We wanted to create a place where customers could slow down, ask questions, and work with people who genuinely care about helping them make the right decision.
As a family-owned business, relationships matter deeply to us. We take pride in getting to know our customers, understanding how they use their kitchens and laundry rooms, and helping guide them toward appliances that fit their needs, style, and budget.
We also believe the experience shouldn’t stop after the sale. That’s why we offer white-glove delivery and installation with our own in-house team, along with ongoing support long after your appliances are installed.
At the end of the day, Appliance Solutions was built on one simple idea: treat people the way we would want our own family treated.
We’re incredibly grateful to the Livingston County community and surrounding areas for supporting our dream, shopping local, and allowing our family to serve them.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We started Appliance Solutions completely from scratch, which has definitely been both exciting and incredibly difficult at times. There’s no real roadmap for building a business from the ground up, and while it’s been rewarding, it’s also required us to learn and figure out so much along the way, often on the fly!

One of our biggest ongoing challenges continues to be visibility. Almost every day we hear someone say, “I didn’t even know you were here!” As a newer small business, our advertising budget is very limited, so much of our growth has come through word of mouth and referrals.

There’s also a common misconception that shopping local automatically means spending more money, so many people naturally gravitate toward the big box stores. But one thing we’re incredibly proud of is how competitive our pricing truly is. In many cases, we match or even beat the box stores while also providing a much more personal experience, white-glove installation, and ongoing after-sale support.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
What sets us apart is the level of service and guidance we provide. Buying appliances can feel overwhelming, and we pride ourselves on helping customers navigate the process in a way that feels approachable, honest, and supportive. We take the time to understand each customer’s home, lifestyle, budget, and priorities so we can help them find the best fit for their unique situation, not just sell them an appliance.

We also pride ourselves on helping customers find appliance solutions for unique or difficult situations. Whether it’s replacing a 30-year-old wall oven where dimensions have changed significantly over time, navigating panel-ready built-ins, or troubleshooting challenging installation situations, we genuinely enjoy helping customers problem-solve and figure out the best path forward.

We even provide pre-site and post-site visits when needed to help ensure projects go as smoothly as possible. Ben’s extensive appliance knowledge is truly invaluable in these situations and has helped so many customers avoid costly mistakes and unnecessary stress.

We carry all the major appliance brands in addition to many specialty brands that can’t be purchased through big box stores, including Speed Queen, Viking, Perlick, Liebherr, Asko, and Smeg, among others. We’re also proud to be a Platinum Speed Queen Dealer.

Our white-glove installation experience is another thing that truly sets us apart. From a basic electric dryer installation to a fully integrated built-in refrigerator with custom cabinetry panels, our in-house team handles every project with care, professionalism, precision, and expertise.

We’re also known for our after-sale support. When you purchase an appliance, it’s important to think about who you’ll call if you have questions about how to use it or if an issue comes up down the road. When customers call Appliance Solutions, they speak directly with Ben and Allison. We’re always happy to help troubleshoot, answer questions, and even help navigate the manufacturer warranty process and those frustrating 1-800 numbers. We genuinely advocate for our customers every step of the way.

We also love working with builders and designers. Whenever we meet a new builder who tells us appliances are the most stressful part of the process, we cringe a little because we truly believe appliances should be one of the easiest parts of a build or renovation. Our goal is to help take that burden off the builder or designer by working directly with the homeowner to guide appliance selections, answer questions, provide specifications, and help coordinate all the moving pieces. We strive to be proactive, communicative, and easily available throughout the process. By allowing us to coordinate the appliance side of a project, builders and designers can spend less time troubleshooting appliance details and more time focusing on the bigger picture of the home and overall project.

We also encourage people to follow us on social media, where we share weekly appliance tips, help educate homeowners, and provide simple advice to help appliances last longer and perform their best.

What matters most to you?
What matters most to us is that our customers feel confident and genuinely good about both their appliance decisions and the overall experience working with us.

As consumers ourselves, we know there’s nothing worse than making a major purchase and later wondering if you made the right decision, overpaid, chose the wrong product, or didn’t receive the level of service you deserved. Buying appliances is a significant investment, and it can feel overwhelming.

That’s why we focus so heavily on education, guidance, honesty, and support throughout the entire process. We want customers to feel informed instead of pressured, supported instead of rushed, and excited about their purchase instead of stressed by it.

At the end of the day, we want people to walk away feeling taken care of, not just during the sale, but long after the appliances are installed in their home.
