Christopher , we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What do you think others are secretly struggling with—but never say?
In today’s culture, it feels almost expected to work harder and accumulate more. We’ve been conditioned to be consumers—always chasing the next thing. I see it not only among my peers in the entertainment industry, but really across society as a whole. People push themselves so hard that they rarely stop to enjoy the very rewards they’ve been working toward.
I believe this is one of the greatest unspoken struggles many of us share, especially those of us raising children. As a father, my top priority is providing for my family while also teaching good morals and values. But the truth is, there are days when I wish I didn’t have to work quite as much. I don’t want to miss the milestones that matter most, yet I also feel the responsibility to create stability and opportunity for my family’s future.
That tension—the pull between presence and provision—isn’t unique to me. It’s something so many of us quietly wrestle with. Talking about it more openly might be the first step toward creating healthier, more balanced lives for ourselves and the people we love.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Founded by Chris London, CL DJ Service is a Detroit-based entertainment company known for blending DJs with live musicians to create a one-of-a-kind hybrid experience. Focused on quality over quantity, the team carefully selects each event to deliver a personalized, elevated atmosphere. Now expanding into corporate and nonprofit productions, CL DJ Service continues to set the standard for premium event entertainment in Southeast Michigan.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My wife has always seen me more clearly than I’ve seen myself. She’s the most grounded and authentic person I know—the glue that keeps our family strong. Her resilience amazes me, even on the toughest days when she runs on little to no sleep. Nobody knows me better, and I couldn’t imagine mentioning anyone more deserving.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There have been plenty of moments when I’ve thought about hanging up the headphones. After 20 years of making a living as a full-time DJ, I’ve faced my share of challenges—questioning whether there’s a shelf life, watching dance culture evolve, and noticing that the music I grew up with doesn’t always carry the same weight it once did.
But then a night comes along where everything clicks—the songs connect, the energy builds, and for a few hours, people leave the outside world behind and just dance. Those nights remind me why I started and why I keep going. Nothing feels more powerful, and it’s what always pulls me back in.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
I will say I admire Keanu Reeves for his character, even though he has the money and power. What I admire most about Keanu is how grounded and genuine he remains despite his success. In an industry where fame often overshadows character, he stands out for his humility and kindness off-screen. From taking the subway to quietly supporting crews and giving generously, he proves that success means more when paired with humanity. That’s the kind of character I deeply respect.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
If I retired tomorrow, our clients would miss our genuine excitement, warmth, and ability to build trust making them feel like their event matters to us personally. That’s rare, and it leaves a lasting impression.
