Check Out Yanice Jackson’s Story

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Yanice Jackson.

Yanice Jackson

Hi Yanice, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
For me to paint “Yanice’s Picture of Success,” it took great effort. I would say that faith, combined with family, patience, tenacity, and a dash of adventure, got me where I am today. Having a well-rounded background has helped me to see things from various perspectives, which motivated me to create opportunities for myself.

I developed a love for the literary arts early and had a keen interest in writing poetry and short stories. Honing my writing skills allowed me to use words with finesse and precision. Afterward, I explored my gifts and talents in Communications and Theatre Arts. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Telecommunications and Film from Eastern Michigan University and my Master of Business Administration from Clark Atlanta University. I consider myself a quick student who embraces life as an eternal student.

I’ve learned to allow my life experiences to be my teacher. I enjoy using my gift of communication to be a bridge that connects others with vital information and resources. I’m known for my work with the Chronicle News (writer/editor/publisher). With over twenty-five years of experience, I’m a media and communications leader passionate about creating and delivering engaging content across print and digital platforms.

We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I have faced my share of life’s obstacles, but I think the outcome of those situations has much to do with how I reacted to them. I’ve had challenges and struggles, but these things have proved good for me as I gained knowledge and character, learning to adapt to various situations on life’s obstacle course.

Through every experience – good or bad – I learned so much about myself and others. I learned things I can pass on to the masses as this furthers my mission to Connect Communities. I would not have the mindset of gratitude unless I had an opportunity to see life from various high and low vantage points.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As a quick learner, I embrace life as an eternal student, letting my life experiences be my teacher. With over twenty-five years of experience, I am a media and communications leader with a passion for creating and delivering engaging content across print and digital platforms. As a Radio Show Host, I leverage my broadcast journalism background and interpersonal communication expertise to host an FM Radio Show/Podcast that covers current affairs, business trends, and community issues.

I’ve learned that searching for validation from others is not something I should chase to remain true to my life’s calling. Doing the work and mastering my craft gave me the confidence to create and execute a plan for my life and career. Defining success for myself and realizing my success was necessary during my journey. My “picture of success” will not always be painted the same as others. Realizing this helps me understand that a “Traditional Career Path” did not have to be my last stop. Even when I use traditional methods to progress, I have embraced the road less traveled.

I’ve learned the importance of not measuring my overall success in one area alone. Walking my calling and being prosperous while doing so comes with a sense of fulfillment, for which I am grateful. As a mother of two, a minister, a business owner, and a public servant, I can say with confidence that the picture of success I have painted for me looks good on me!

In terms of your work and the industry, what changes do you expect to see over the next five to ten years?
It has been interesting to observe the changes in telecommunications and media over the years. The advancement of technology and digital communications, from my perspective, has been amazing.

With the surge of internet use in the 1990s came new communication methods, including digital media channels, which allow users to share messages more quickly and across greater distances. These communication methods include social media, websites, blogs, email marketing, instant messenger, and streaming/podcasts. Online Platforms continually innovate to make digital communications safer, more engaging, and easier to use.

The future of media is continuing to turn to digital advances for entertainment, news, and business, which translates to major opportunities for businesses. According to the Pew Research Center, the digital media industry continues to grow, with about 86% of American adults consuming some of their news online. As the audience for online media grows, so does the number of platforms. For businesses, maintaining an online presence that allows them to effectively communicate with their audience is critical.

The development of communications goes hand in hand with the evolution of media. Mobile video marketing is where I see the future. The future of marketing seems to be not only keeping up with consumer behavior but also getting ahead of the curve to predict and set trends.

With more people looking online to consume news and messaging, it looks like the future of marketing will be heavy in Vloggling and Video Shorts. These methods have proven an addictive and cost-effective way to market to the masses. Some examples of mobile video marketing include social media videos, Product Marketing Videos (videos for B2B), email videos, and advertising videos.
